Most likely NOT cobweb. This is a common phenomenon seen with mycellium grown that way and is almost surely nothing to worry about. Notice the carefull wording. I'd let it ride, see what happens.

I have a couple of jars that I didn't put the dry vermiculite layer on, and the mycelium is puffy and cloud-like on top. It looks fine to me, I don't think its anything to worry about.

Thanks for the words. I have cased it. It was pretty damp( the cake)...maybe too damp?
