can it be done by simply changing the weight valve to a toggle pressure valve?

Any PC that can reach a pressure of 15 psi can be called a strerilizer as it is the standard pressure for steam sterilisation.

An AA sterilizes with either type pressure regulation. (weight, or toggle)
The toggle is in my opinion FAR SUPERIOR to the weight.

And, YES........
They will interchange. Order the toggle valve. https://store.wafco.com/ezmerchant/home.nsf
Screw out the pipe the weight sits on. Wrap toggle threads with silicone pipe thread tape. Screw in the toggle tightly. DONE.

I dunno about that, I thought with a sterilizer you could seal it while it was hot to prevent the cooling air from sucking in contams from the air around the vessel... The idea would be the release the vacuum once the unit was in front of a flowhood.

Edit : A PC is not sealed and will not create a vacuum. Either way, you should have covered your jars with something so the only contaminants you have to worry about are the ones already present inside the jars.

You need to study up on AA PC's or AA STERILIZERS.
Equipped with a toggle. An AA will not allow outside air in, or out. Unless over-pressured to 26 psi. Then, it will release pressure OUT.

Do those toggle valves reset them selves after they blow? or do you have to flip them back yourself?
Been wondering that for months, lol

No reset. They begin to CHIRP steam around 22/24 psi. 24/25 psi, they begin to whistle softly. 26/29 psi, they sound like a steam whistle on a RR engine. Sound will wake you up, from a deep weed sleep, 100 ft away.

You have to flip them back
Now the question that stumps me is that why would you pay extra for a sterilizer when there is a quick fix that will save you a few hundred dollars?

ok so normally you pc at 15 psi, how do you keep it there steady with a toggle that releases at 22/24??
and lastly isn't 22/24 above safe operatating ranges?

You find the "sweet spot" on your stove at about 246 deg that generates enough heat to maintain around 17 PSI from my experience with sterilizers.
with PSI around 20+ your pushing un-safe operations
Agar said that just to clarify at what PSI they would blow

I have no problems keeping my 21qt presto with a weight at 15psi w/o it jiggeling,. solong as I don't keep my head in the clouds from other substances and have motor skills to use my stoves flame knob.
However it still loses water.
Thanks for clearing that up agar

agar thanks for the help. I'm just waiting for my 930 AA to arrive to my house. ill be changing to the toggle valve asap, because the advantages of the valve far out weight the price. also i was under the impression that i only needed one but your picture i see that you have two mounted on your AA. how many do i need? thank you

Mine are in fact 941 sterilizers.
With inserts. The sterilizers come with 2 toggle valves. But, no blow out plug. So, the 2 toggle valves are redundant, for safety.
One works fine. Assuming, your 930 also has a blow-out safety plug.
Here is a pic of my 921. With 1 toggle & blow-out plug.

Yea my 930 has a blow-out safety. I am very surprised you remembered what pressure cooker I have. I added a toggle some time last year, best move I ever made. The lady in my life loves that fact that there is no noise or smell appose to my old 6 qt
My question still stands, why would you buy a sterilizer if a PC can be modded so cheaply?

I bought my 941's a price. I could not pass up.
Older AA's come stock with the toggle valve. AA changed to weights, as a cost cutting measure. Just a few years back. AA sterilizers still come with the toggle valves.
Years back, first PC I bought was an AA (eBay). With the toggle. So, I had one with a toggle from day 1.
I always was baffled by all the (other brand) PC questions. About PROBLEMS, I NEVER had.
It was later on, when I bought weight type ones. At yard sales, thrift stores, etc. For CHEAP prices, to give away. That I realized how MAGNIFICENT, the toggle really is.
If you start out with an AA, with a toggle. (by chance, in my case) You think, all other types are Simply, because of the problems they have. And, you don't.

Since the threads on all AA's are the same. The parts are interchangeable.
Other brand PC's are thinner walled. Plus, most use pliable seals. Not metal to metal seal, as AA's are.
I would not recommend modifying another brand PC.
