Malibu,
You are working on something that's pestering me, too.
I just drilled two 1 1/4" holes into my sterlite container (don't know how many gallons it is, but it's pretty big). I covered both holes with filter material (cotton disks). That was last night. I still have 98% humidity from my casings alone (just two in there, both are pretty small). Don't know how it might have affected the CO2 exchange yet. I'm betting that I'm going to have to add a fan of some sort on a timer of some kind. How the heck I'm going to rig that is a mystery to me.
I don't know what symptoms are encouraging you to focus on the air exchange. In my case, my pins are very skinny and small.

Indicaz,
But we're both already suffering from too much humidity in the fruiting chamber. Why do you suggest we get humidifiers?
Appreciatively,

casings generate their own humidity and don't need a bubbler jar or perlite humidification. this leaves you with only needing to bring in fresh air. a regular aquarium pump would work for one casing rubermaid maybe (or check out this surplus medical air pump for only $5. http://www.sciplus.com/recommend.cfm?recommendid=6621&jump=category%2Ecfm%3Fsubsection%3D18%26category%3D176 )
as for the CO2 vent hole, a simple 1 inch diameter hole near the bottom would be fine. either polyfill it or gluegun a filter disk. using a computer fan with a timer is pretty unnessesary and leaving an air pump on constantly works just fine.

Eightball,
What a wacky online vendor. They have a lot of funny, weird, stuff. I am definitely buying the pump tonight.
I found this post tonight after having driven to Fry's and Walmart to purchase a timer and special hookups for a computer fan myself. I already have an aquarium pump going 24/7, but I'm afraid it's just not doing the job. I'll order a couple of these and see if I can't lower the humidity and increase the CO2 with them. Damn!
I should mention, though, for people that need good timers which are extremely programmable, I found an awesome digital timer for $15 at Fry's this evening. Intermatic Programmable Digital Timer This thing really goes beyond your normal, bullshit timer with those 15 minute increments and buttons to push in or out. You can program the duration from 1 minute to 60 for up to 14 on or off settings a day. You can also have it do random patterns, etc. It EVEN has some small batteries to preserve your complex program data in case you unplug it, etc.
thanks again 8ball,

malibu76 - what you described above is exactly what alot of folks did years ago.
Man, I really wish I could find a few threads on the subject but they're so old and tough to find....
Years ago, a few people got computer fans and used them to regulate a constant gas exchange with a timer. I WAS EVEN ABLE to do it!!! I'm definitely not "electrically minded" but all you have to do is slice the wires and twist them together
I say do it. Should work fine
