well they became cracker dry in like 8 hours. they shrunk so much! i feel bad for doing that to them. but maybe I did it right.
anybody know how to take the heating element out? I'm not good with taking things apart and and putting them back together if that's what you mean. or is it simple?

Since mushrooms are over 90% water, they will shrink considerably when dried, no matter what heat setting you use.

Grow a nice fat flush of Texas and tell me how much they shrink ,don't get me wrong they still lose a ton of weight but they stay a similar size and get hard enough to chip your tooth

Well, I guess there's a couple good reasons NOT to grow Texas then, eh?

Thats the way to go,or use a fan like I do
I've found that the fan is the best way to go. Chemical dryers make me feel uneasy and the heat from the dehydrator tends to shrink them up quite a bit more than just setting them on a fan facing up.

I also dehydrate a LOT of peppers, tomatoes, fruits & herbs. Not to mention, make succulent jerky with one, too.
mmmmmmm....jerky
I love homemade jerky. I assume this is deer jerky? I haven't been in contact with any hunters in awhile...Man, is there anyway you could send me a small ziplock of jerky? I would love you forever!

Buy some bug screen like the kind for screen doors. Get a box fan, and cut out a piece of the bug screen that is that size. Turn the box fan upside down so its blowing towards the floor and get it about 2" off the ground w/ some books or something.
Place booms on the screen, and wait. Works like a charm.

or spend x3 as much cash and get a dehydrator and have perfectly dried mushrooms in a day.

I too use the Nesco dehydrator. It works like a charm. I run mine 24/7 at 135degrees. I just adjust the number of trays in it as I need. I have never noticed a lack of potency. They are usually cracker dry in 24 hours. I have burned out 3 in 2 years though running it 24/7, so it is a small annual expense. But I have plenty of extra trays now

It's not really much of an annual expense if you keep the top clean and just switch tops out by returning the broken one to *mart a week or so after buying a new one.
Not necessarily an honest move, and doesn't really hurt *mart, as they just ship it back to their reclamation center and get a refund from nesco most likely.
But hey, it saves $45, and you can pretend your somehow pulling a fast one on *mart
