i think the reason the i7 isn't as good as it should be is because intel is full of a bunch of assholes that always keep you wanting more.  for example, they release a new processor....with less cache wth?  if an i7 had 12mb or more...which is what it should have done, at least 16mb.  then they would be smashing amd into the ground.  thats the common theme ive been noticing as im about to upgrade my computer, almost every single product i look at, im thinking all they had to do was this or that and they could have had a perfect product, they must be doing it all intentional as the trend is way to consistent.

you can pay $400 for a motherboard and there's still things that are wrong with it...it just doesn't make sense

that's because they are all assholes who want to make more money with crap products.

I plan on using an ATI 3850 512MB for folding. Anyone have any info on how good they are at folding?

Imagine Folding using one of the new nVidia supercomputers with 240-960 cores.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/tesla_computing_solutions.html

If I had $5000 to spend I'd get one:eek:

Wow,
Miraculously, it says I am ranked 18th after a week or so of folding.
I am on a Macbook. I mean, I leave it on a lot, but I didn't think I'd ever make it to the top 20.
On the other hand, when I search for my username, it says I am ranked 407th.
Can anyone tell me what is going on?

It would be very nice to be able to win that supporter account though...

Seems to me like the majority of the papers on the stanford website are computer science oriented, which isin't a bad thing, but does not feel like this project is serving its intended purpose.
or possibly I only understand the titles that have something to do with CS, and the rest are all fucking biology gibberish that I never took enough of.

Agreed!

 Merlyn!

cherokee, I gave you a link to published scientific papers that are based on the information gathered/produced by F@H. It answers a lot, though you probably wouldn't understand it since you aren't a scientist studying proteins. None the less it shows that progress has been made.

The tesla from what I hear isn't that great. It's essentially a GTX 280 with more gddr ram. Buy four gtx295 for the same price imo.

I'm using an i7 w/9600gt, a p4 w/8600gt, a laptop with a core2 duo w/8800m gts, and occasionally a athlon 64 w/9600gt. I'm only using two cores on the i7 (bad heatsink) and I'm 7th on the shroomery.

Also, the smp client is messed up for windows right now so it's better to use multiple instances of the uniprocessor version.

I've been folding for a little while now, but just submitted anonymously as there weren't any teams I was interested in joining.

Went ahead and started completing WU's for the shroomery, should be a decent contribution.

It's nice to know that your wasted cpu cycles can be put to good use. I leave my computers on all the time so that's a lot of power that would otherwise go wasted.
