Music Choice...need some help
    #667693 - 06/07/02 02:57 PM (21 years, 9 months ago)

This is my track list for a cd..i've only tripped twice and once my cousin who's a hippy played music for me and the other i was in a nightclub.
Now, i split the music into two: Normal and different
The Hives - Hate to tell you so
The Hives - Main Offender
International Noise Consipiracy - Up for Sale
At-the Drive In - One Armed Scissor
At-the Drive In - Quarantined
At-the Drive In - Napoleon Solo

Part 2:
DNTEL - Umbrella
DNTEL - Why I'm so unhappy
Acid Mothers Temple - Universe of Romance
Mum - The Ballad of broken birdie
Mogwai - Take me somewhere nice
Incubus - Aqueous Transmission(I know, I know..really poppy but this song has wicked sitar and very mellow vibe, strange for such a band)

Now...I want something to heighten my experience yet I don't want to be scared(no infected mushroom or goa please!!! lol) since i'm in my room alone, tripping at around 12 to 6 with my rents not so far awawy.

Ideas? Opinions? Criticisms?
I have alot of ambient stuff but i don't want all of my cd being like that if i don't like it...Should i keep Part 1 even tho its not "trip out music" as most people would define it. I'm just putting it there to keep me happy when the onset is coming and pump me up almost.

Try Tool - Lateralus. This truly is an amazing album. If you haven't heard it on drugs, you haven't heard it's full potential! Bliss from start to end. Also, try some Pink Floyd. Dark Side of the Moon will MOVE YOU like no other album. It's greeeeeeeeeeat.

I would have to recommend Blue oyster cult Astronomy. Great deep song. And any Pink Floyd is fantastic but I would try Momentary lapse of reason instead of Darkside as its a little lighter and optimistic. I was very surprised to see mogwai on your list. In my area I am the ONLY mogwai fan. I have to special order their shit. I may have to check some of the other music you listed that I havent heard of. Good luck in your journey.

Try ?-Ziq. If you haven't heard them- get the mp3s of "Secret Stair" and "Tango n' Vectif."
Also Talvin Singh. Sort of Indian ambient jungle?
try "Searching For Passion" and "Anokha"

Trippiest "song" I have heard is Orb's OOBE from the Peel Sessions.
Kind of hard to find.
Not the OOBE from their UFOrb album (a totally different song, and not as good.)

I think there's a lot of really upbeat / chill Goa trance, as well as some creepy or intense songs.
But if you think Goa's scary you should trip to Coil...

I've heard Dark River, but I'm not sure if it was that mix. But the original is a pretty cool song too. Dark, eerie and sounds like you're in an alien landscape. Once I listened to Musick to Play in the Dark and I swear, I thought the wildlife from the movie Pitch Black was fluttering around the outside of my car. It was a freaky night

um yes.. i know k&d, but oh they are so passe..
so last year you know gmaelfihe,
try sphongle.. my friend, they will lead you to the gates of perception...

i was at this outdoor at the start of this year, sheepish you might know the gathering... anyway i was absolutely recoverin that night and laying amongst these big psychedelic sculptures of flowers next to the riverbank, and there was this guy from japan playing the electric harp, absolutely mind blowing, he would take you on a journey lasting forever..i had never been so peaceful, i was sinking into the ground..
that is when i realised that there is more to life than four to the floor...
quite obvious in retrospect now. tho

Yep, I've heard of the Gathering. Raves aren't my thing, but everyone I've heard of that went sure had a good time. Probably the best place to be on drugs.

"Relationship of Command" by At the Drive-In is suprisingly psychedelic.

Here's my play list. It's full of music that is poppy and up-beat, yet is equally complex and thoughtful:

Sonic Team - Metal Madness

The Coral - The Oldest Path

Brian Wilson - Our Prayer/Heroes and Villains (you should REALLY check out some of the later Beach Boys stuff)

the flaming lips - do ya realize (very thoughtful lyrics that i find enjoyable when on THC "instead of saying your goodbyes, let them know you realise the sun doesn't go down, it's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round)

Chris Morris - Uzi Lover

FUTURE PILOT AKA - witchi tai to

Of Montreal - Jaques Lamure

karate - Not To Call The Police

Super Furry Animals - Juxtapozed With U

neutral milk hotel - in the aeroplane over the sea

Fant?mas - Rosemary's Baby

Mercury Rev - Kiss from an Old Flame A Trip to the Moon

beulah - If We Can Land A Man On The Moon

Anything off of Boards of Canada "music has the right to children" disk (Peter Standing alone is my favorite)
anything off of Future Sound Of London's "ISDN" disk
And:
Squarepusher can be fun while tripping... the music actally makes some sense or, if your feeling brave try MATMOS: A Chance to Cut is a Chance to Cure disk (if you can find it..)
