10 days after inoculation of grain jars w/pics

The first and third one look pretty good but they haven't increased in growth much over the past couple days. The rest have started to show growth but but not much. I have gotten to this point in the past where colonization just stops. What can I do to get them going? My grains seem to be a little dry...should I inject some water into the jars to increase the moisture? Thanks

I'm new to this also but I have been trying putting some of the jars upside down and it helps them take off like crazy.. Just a thought, however I have no idea really for you in reguards to them stalling, I've just started a couple test runs with WBS, but man am I proud of my LC's. :grin:

You can shake the 2-nd and possibly the 3-rd one if they have not been shaken at all.
For an accurate answer though, do a closeup of the grain.

its a little soon to try injecting water, but after about 3 weeks i did it with my WBS recently, and they finished about 4 days later...it definitely worked but make sure to sterilize your water if you end up going that route. personally 10 days i would just give them more time before getting crazy.

Shake them all. I can tell they havn't been since inoculation from the myc pattern, thats fine. The ones that got gimped on spores are gonna go bad before that small amount of myc gets around to all those grains unless they get some assistance. Its not good to shake in the first few days or untill about half/75% (depending on grain volume/medium) but in this case, those guys with the less myc need it.

Those look good.  The mycelium will start hydrating itself.  The grains will look dry until then.  Turn the jars upside down when they get 75%+.  Leave em alone more if youve been messing w/ em a lot, and shake REALLY well when the 1 time you do it.

What temp?

You're on track.  10 days isn't too long.  Confidence!

The temp in the tit is always between 81 and 84 degrees. I shook a few of the up to see what would happen. I'll let you know when I notice anything.

It's now been 17 days since I inoculated my rye grain jars. I'm really excited about this batch, they seem to be almost ready for fruiting. This is the first successful colonization I've had after many attempts over the past few months. It think the biggest/most effective change I made was drying the grains with a blow dryer before loading them into the jars (as recommended by agar in another post I read).

Here are some pics with a couple close ups of the 4 on the left and the 4 on the right. The 4 on the left are colonizing slowly at this point and they look a little dry. If they don't catch up to the ones on the right in a few days I might inject some more water. For the 4 on the right, should I wait until they are completely covered in mycelium so you can't even see the grains before I case them? Thanks

How do you have your lids rigged & what size holes?

I drilled 2 1/4 inch holes in the top of each lid, covered with tyvek, then screwed the ring on. After injecting, I put a square of micropore tape over the injection hole.

17 days is still a long time for colonization, but the important thing is your success! Nice...

Probably not,it will probably just pool at the bottom,your moisture should be inside the grains if they were prepared correctly,it happens don't worry about it.if you still have uncolonized pieces when it comes time to use them just don't use the ones that aren't colonized,and yes wait till everything is white and you can not see the grains
