What's a good program for making animated GIFs?
    #6718382 - 03/27/07 10:09 PM (17 years, 6 days ago)

and if anyone wants to bang out a little Print Scrn-tutorial on how to just make something move in a certain direction*, that would be awesome (but just a reccomendation for a good program would be fine)

*like how this sign moves:

adobe photoshop imageready opens up video files. i capture a segment and then place it on the background of a previously captured jpeg. and so on.

Macromedia Fireworks 8 does wonders for me.

You start a new project.
Put something in your first scene.
Add a scene
Put what you want in your second scene.
Rinse Repeat.

Jasc Animation shop is a good place to start if you're new to the gif world.

Ok, I figured out how to do it in Fireworks but there's a big problem: it won't let me make the movement faster than 1/100th of a second!

Do any of the other programs let you make things go faster than that?

You have to figure it out.
There's no program with what you can just start making animated gif-s without any previous knowledge of the application.

I want one of you guys to make me a custom tutorial because all the tutorials I've seen SUCK.

I just want a few Print Scrns showing me how to make ONE OBJECT move

and there's also the issue of fireworks not letting you make the GIF move under 1/100th of a second (with the exception of 0, which is way too fast)

:nut:

This button allows you to make an new frame. You edit all the frames in order how you like and push the play button.....Voila!

So all this talk about making gifs convinced me to try doing it myself with imageread and this is what i ended up with after figuring out all the buttons, luckily i already know how to use photoshop. Just wondering is there a way to shrink the entire thing so i can put it as my avatar?

Ulead GIF Animator is one cool piece of software that allows crazy features like timing individual frames to 1/100 of a second, turning movie to .gif etc. and it has good ways to crunch down filesize and have it still look good.

It pays to create your art in Photoshop, but take it to UGA for actual animating.

Adobe ImageReady lets you go under 1 second
