g2g with 85% colonized rye jar?
    #6710458 - 03/25/07 06:19 PM (16 years, 10 months ago)

My quart jars of wheat berries have been colonizing for 2 weeks now. There is myc evenly throughout except the jar is still not completely white. I fucked up and shook the jars too much so I'm assuming thats why its taking so long. Can I do a g2g with these not yet fully colonized jars? Common sense says it shold work.

Shake ONCE about 18/25% colonized.
Shaking more impedes growth.

Yes you can G2G it now.
But, I would wait until mother jar(s) are 100%.

I wouldn't and this is why: Sterilzation only gives a 'window of opportunity' and is never complete. If you g2g with uncolonized grains, those uncolonized kernels might sit for another two weeks in the receiving jar before the mycelium gets to them, thus they're outside their window, and more likely to contaminate.

Let the jars fully colonize. Being in a hurry never benefits mycology.
