Children have no place in a psychiatrist's office until they have completed their psychosexual development.

I dont know about you guys but i think the person that should go to Jail is not necassarily the Parents but the doctor.
any doctor to prescribe "speed" to a 4 year old should be put in jail for life.

According to McGonnell and Williams, Rebecca spent the last days of her life wandering around the house, sick and disoriented. But the Rileys told police they were not alarmed. "It was just a cold," Carolyn repeatedly said during police interviews.
The medical examiner said Rebecca died a slow and painful death. She said the overdose of Clonidine caused her organs to shut down, filling her lungs with fluid and causing congestive heart failure.
Williams told police that the night before she died, Rebecca was pale and seemed "out of it." At one point, the little girl knocked weakly on her parents' bedroom door and softly called for her mommy, but Michael Riley opened the door a crack and yelled at her to go back to her room, Williams said.
Later that night, McGonnell told police, he heard someone struggling to breathe and found Rebecca gurgling as if something was stuck in her throat. McGonnell told police he wiped vomit from his niece's face, then kicked in the door to her parents' room and yelled at the Rileys to take Rebecca to the emergency room.
Instead, Carolyn Riley said, she gave her daughter a half-tablet of Clonidine.
Reading this makes me want to cry. I can't believe how twisted some people's minds are.

I hate the pharmaceutical industry's influence on psychiatry. It makes me sick to see perfectly healthy people who simply need talking therapy being given drugs.

The doctor who prescribed the drugs should have to go before an inquiry board and have his license stripped, as well.

It's the easy way out of having to actually do anything, besides scribbling illegibly on a pad. It's the American way. "Either you're with us, or you're with the terrorists." Fucking weak sheep is what those parents are. They should have to take a fatal dose of what they killed their daughter with. Jesus christ! Their 4 year old daughter!! People just fucking suck.

Believe me, it's not.
But being able to accurately diagnose it in a 4 year old along with bipolar disorder seems fucking crazy in my eyes.

There seems to be a lot of anger directed towards the parents, doctors, and people involved in this case. In my opinion, it is our current society that is really to blame. In the last century we have dramatically changed the way humans live from the hundred thousand years of evolutionary and socitary history that humanity is used to. Poverty and the other unique stresses of modern life cause people to seek an easier way out. It trickles down in an immense way to our children, who also have to deal with the historically new conflicts of not being around their working parents for more then half the day as well as new social pressures. This coupled with the expectations of success in school (another modern invention) I believe is the reason why nine out of ten of children are diagnosed with ADHD.
I myself was diagnosed at an early age and was prescribed regular Ritalin due to low grades. Although my grades dramatically improved, I forced the issue a year later by refusing to take them because I felt somewhere deep inside me that it was hurting me. To this day I still wonder what kind of long term implications (physical and mental) even a year of regular use will have on me, and there are a lot of kids who take it a lot longer then I did. Sadder still, less then a year ago I even considered going back on Ritalin due to poor grades in college. Luckily, I decided that it wasn't me that was the problem, but it was the system I was trying to force myself into that was the issue.
I am sorry, but if you take the 200 million people of America, nay the 6 billion people of the world, who are struggling to live in our twisted modern society and expect each and every one of them to have the will to stand up for what is right when they themselves don't even know what is right then you will be greatly disappointed. Each and every one of us has made mistakes, has externalized our frustration when life has got us down. It is a tragedy, but not a surprise, that the mistakes of these parents caused the death of a young girl.
Really, this report didn't shock me, and it wont shock me if even more reports are issued in the coming years. Its going to take a change of consciousness to turn this tide. People need to realize that it is society who needs to conform to the individual, and NOT the other way around. This is when we will stop trying to force a square peg into a round hole and thus stop medicating our children and ourselves to conform to a socitary norm that shouldn’t exist.
My only hope is that this young soul’s sacrifice will not go unheard.

Yeah.. I just got the mental picture of the parents describing the little girl's quirks and the doctor being like "I know what you mean. Here, this'll keep her in check".
