New Hope II: Helen Caldicott: The New Nuke Danger
    #670509 - 06/09/02 06:20 PM (22 years, 9 months ago)

I just watched this lady on C-Span 2. She is amazing.
Her knowledge of what is going on in this country is intense.

In the tradition of the New Hope, I want to propose that those like-minded individuals poised on making changes happen instead of watching things happen and commenting on them go out and purchase this book and read it.

Caldicott was very active in the 80's in educating the American peoples on what nuclear proliferation meant to the American people. You may not remember, but we had a 2nd American revolution in the 80's that educated intelligent people who were willing to lobby and make changes to our nation's agenda. As a result, 80% of the American people polled in 1986 were 100% AGAINST nuclear prolferation. The American populaces stance on nuclear proliferation helped end the cold war and slow the development of MAD (mutual assured destruction).

If anyone is interested in reading this book with me, let me know. I know this group of shroomrites is intelligent and is very capable of becoming pro-active. Let's read and discuss and then react, as any intelligent person would, by petitioning our leaders, educating our brethren and protesting the powers that would desroy this Earth and it's citizenry.

Is anyone with me?

Caldicott's book is published by The New Press ( thenewpress.com ) dead link looking for update
If you are at all interested and want to discuss this, get the book with me and let's do it.

What do you say?

A bunch of people screaming about nuclear proliferation didn't help end the cold war. Reagan's buildup in the 80's had the most to do with it. The Soviet Union just couldn't keep up. This woman had nothing to do with that. Just wanted to point that out.

The ignorant and utopian economic model of communism led to the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the cold war. If anything, Reagan's military build-up hastened the collapse of the Soviet's communist economy which couldn't keep up with the more free U.S. economy.
