I listen to Takk while falling asleep so fucking often, dude! Or (), or Explosions in the Sky.

i have a very large collection of 'sleep' music.
Ambient Nights is one you can find online. I HIGHLY recommend listening to the first cd before trying the others. http://www.ambient-nights.org/music.php You can download it from their site.
Other than that, i listen to an album called Scottish Moors

I have periods where I will and won't
I never could get into Takk. I think it was worse than Von. Their live stuff is great, though.

I can't go to sleep without some form of music but I always find myself waking up a few hours later with the music annoying me. It is kind of odd.

Yes. I like ambient electronic stuff like Autechre Tri Repetae or Amber or Aphex Twin Select Ambient works or some Squarepusher or something.
I also like Miles Davis' fusion stuff like In A Silent Way or Bitches Brew or Jack Johnson. Indian classical also makes really good night ambience, tabla sitar ragas and stuff like that.
The Jimmy Chamberlain Complex - Life Begins Again is a good night time album. Classical is good too.

I have to have some Pink Floyd, Miles Davis, something with Jerry Garcia, etc. playing to get to sleep well. Dead silence keeps me awake.

I habitually listen to ambient music to drown out street noise and drift off to slee. I use a 5 CD player loaded with Brian Eno, Steve Roach etc. I think it is actually good for you cause I sleep pretty good with it.
