casing difficulty
    #6691970 - 03/20/07 03:57 PM (16 years, 10 months ago)

Hey everyone. I have been reading up mushroom cultivation for a while now and plan on growing very soon. After researching the different mushroom growing techniques, I found the casing method's procedure to not be much if any at all more difficult than the pf cake method. Many claim it is more difficult, but what about casing actually makes it more difficult. I just want a big yeild:)

its just an extra step or two, it's no more difficult then growing cakes.

Do the casings. Like coda said, just a couple of extra steps, and in my opinion, better results.

It is EASIER to make casings than cakes, read my Sig and 5 for you for jumping in headfirst despite the terrible advice from everyone not to :reckon:They only reason anyone on earth should grow cakes is if they are unable to get their hands on a pressure cooker

making a simple casing out of PF cakes is extremely easy with a very high rate of success. if you dont want to start spawning yet at least make casings

Adjusting the pH is tricky although it's not totally necessary.
Getting the casing to field capacity can be tricky.
Learning to pasturize and not let the temp get above 170.
Learning when to initiate pinning. Laying down an even casing layer at a good depth.
Cakes are fool proof, casings aren't. They're about 10x easier to mess up than cakes. Do your research, don't take short cuts and you'll get it. If you don't succeed the first time keep at it.
It can't hurt to start with a few cakes though, just to get some key concepts down. Good Luck!
