Best college in Oregon

I Am seriously considering going into the great field of psychology. And am looking for a decent school to go to.

I would prefer something in Oregon, but if there is none I would consider relocating.

Anyone have advice or suggestions?

To be a "psychologist" you need to get at least a Master's, PhD is best. It really doesn't matter where you get your Bachelor's from but you want the top schools for your Master's and beyond.

Just get kick-ass grades while in the Bachelor program.

I was pre-med in college so I really cannot specifically give you information for what you are seeking.

I'd recommend finding someone that already has been through college and is presently doing the type of work you want to do. Most professionals are happy to "mentor" a student that is diligent.

By all means seek out a mentor, it will save you a lot of trial and error on your own.

Reed College is a fairly prestigious liberal arts college in oregon. I don't think its that important to go to a really well known undergrad school though. What is really important though is that to get into a good PhD program, you want to get as much research experience as you can as an undergrad, so choose a school where you can do that at. There are also a lot of summer research programs at different universities, so keep your grades up so that you have the opportunity to get into these. Also, buddy up with your professors, as you'll need some good letters of recommendation when it comes time to apply to grad school. You'll want at least one letter from a professor who you have done research with.

you should consider saving a bunch of $$$ and go to a community college to get your general eds....then when you are ready to begin core courses, you can easily transfer to a different school.

when I started school my declared major was psychology...
now Ive changed it to earth and environmental sciences + plan on getting into marine biology after undergrad
anyways good luck! I wish I could go to school on the west coast right now, probably will end there anyways once I get my bachelors

Thats the US News List for overal top psychology graduate programs. The University of Oregon seems to be the best for Oregon at number 47

I'm going to the University of Colorado at Boulder next year and I'm double majoring in psychology and philosophy. From what I've heard CU Boulder has a highly regarded psych department.

Here's a national ranking of undergraduate psychology programs:

CU Boulder is number 14 on there. It's ranked higher than a few Ivy League schools (and for all you haters, remember, this is just the rankings for psych programs).

Yea theres no doubt Boulder is a good school. I got in there for grad school,but am gonna probably going to go to Georgia Tech or if I get in, University of Illinois. Boulder has a surprisingly good optical physics program, actually ranked number 1 because NIST is there and does research with U of Boulder. However I am more interesting in optical engineering/quantum computing which is actually a much different field, where Boulder ranks 38

I almost called BS on your list until I read that second post. Go to a school with name recognition. I go to BC nothing like everybody knowing that overall you are considered "New Ivy". (That's no lie I got less from BC academic scholarship wise than my Ivy acceptances) Don't limit yourself to Oregon go to the best school you can it will help in the job market.

If you want to be able to support yourself with a degree in Psychology you will be looking at least 8 years of college. Of course this doesn't apply to all situations, but it is the norm.

I really don't think that stingier academic scholarships correlate with overall institutional quality. Part of what makes the "old" Ivies so formidable are the financial resources they have to throw around.

BC probably gave you less in part because they have less to give.

And how often do people really give you the fist bump on being "New Ivy"?

Ever figure out if you're gonna go back to school?  I've shy'd away from Oregon colleges in light of how shitty their biochem and biotech programs are, hence stumbling across "oregon Colleges" on shroomery.

Portland's probably got something like that at their schools, they're all liberal and arts related for the most part (I mean there's OSHU I guess...).  It's probably a good thing you didn't get into biochemical engineering though, you'd end up having to go somewhere else.  I didn't realize PSU and the schools around portland had such a weak science base until I started researching their requirements for bachelors, and lack of masters degrees in the field.

Reno Kind of sucks, but UNR has one of the top biomolecular engineering programs on the west coast next to Berkley and Davis I believe, so I'm sticking around here, but at least it's in-state tuition.

Yeah We have east west college, and NCNM, and another massage school.  And then all the Chinese practices.  Plus the insane amount of yoga institutes.
