Both. I'm assuming that Vivek probably went to India some time in the sixties.

I met a lot of these kind of guys in Amsterdam saying pretty much the same things.

"Spiritual materialism is the failure to let go of ego clinging in the development of an understanding of spiritual and related areas. For example, it would be an error of Spiritual Materialism to believe that "I" am reincarnated. And this erroneous belief would likely result in a further error that since "I" am reincarnated, I do not have to face the reality of suffering and death." - Wikipedia
