I've grown shrooms from cakes and casings a few times and I still get about the same results each time. My shrooms look weak and unhealthy compared to most of the stately ones pictured in the forums here. That is to be expected, but what is the difference? I guess the main problem is getting the correct environment for the shrooms to fruit in. Especially when you pretty much have to guess like with humidity. My setup is as follows: I have a cool mist humidifier that runs for 2 minutes every couple of hours. I'm not sure if that is the right amount. Light cycle is 12/12, and I fan about once a day. I used alien's shroom tek for colonizing the B+ jars and cased with 50/50. How do people get their shrooms to grow straight up? Mine end up twisting around and falling onto themselves? Today, I ran my humidifier for a couple minutes until the grow chamber was fogged and around 3 minutes later, all the humidity had dissipated. Is this the problem? The humidity level is rising and falling too quickly? Should I try to create a more airtight container? How would I go about figuring out what I am doing wrong?  Thx for any insight you guys may have and I apoligize about my rambling.

Well, first off you need a hygrometer. Without that you'll never know what your humidity is at and maby thats one of the problems. Maby you should fan more than once a day to. The basic rule is at least 3 times a day. Not sure about the cool mist humidifier b/c i've never used one myself but to me they seem complicating. Thats the only things I could think of right now, maby some one else can help to.

do you know how much humidity you have???
cool mist sux in my trials you should use perlite unless your powering a large grow closet. if you want your shroom to grow more uniformly then make sure light only comes from the top of your terrarium this seems to help a little cause if light is coming from every angle they grow at every angle. make sure your temps are good usually room temp is fine especially since summer is amongst us. let me know your humidity(if you dont have a gauge see how much condensation is on the walls) and temp and ill see if i can help you get your conditions where they need to be also include the area where you live(not the exact location but area)cause that makes a difference

when i started growing i got a print from ralphe's 44.
i started growing the cambodians but had poor results.
a few weeks later a friend came back from amsterdam witha print of mexican (or hawaiian - i forget).
anyway there was a big big diffrence. the amsterdam print was much more commertial. it grew much faster much biger much heavier.
clearly genetics.
check where u got your print from.

Thx for all the tips. I think I might switch over to perlite like suggested or maybe even use it to even out the humidity increases/decreases and still use the humidifier for short bursts. My casings are starting to look healthier.

i suspect that your humidity levels are probably too low. My friend uses a cool mist humidifier and he runs his 24/7. He finds that it not only provides the proper humidity levels but also great air exchange. Read shroomgod's humidifier tek if you haven?t already:
