Music Choice...need some help

This is my track list for a cd..i've only tripped twice and once my cousin who's a hippy played music for me and the other i was in a nightclub. Now, i split the music into two: Normal and different The Hives - Hate to tell you so The Hives - Main Offender International Noise Consipiracy - Up for Sale At-the Drive In - One Armed Scissor At-the Drive In - Quarantined At-the Drive In - Napoleon Solo Part 2: DNTEL - Umbrella DNTEL - Why I'm so unhappy Acid Mothers Temple - Universe of Romance Mum - The Ballad of broken birdie Mogwai - Take me somewhere nice Incubus - Aqueous Transmission(I know, I know..really poppy but this song has wicked sitar and very mellow vibe, strange for such a band) Now...I want something to heighten my experience yet I don't want to be scared(no infected mushroom or goa please!!! lol) since i'm in my room alone, tripping at around 12 to 6 with my rents not so far awawy. Ideas? Opinions? Criticisms? I have alot of ambient stuff but i don't want all of my cd being like that if i don't like it...Should i keep Part 1 even tho its not "trip out music" as most people would define it. I'm just putting it there to keep me happy when the onset is coming and pump me up almost.

Try Tool - Lateralus. This truly is an amazing album. If you haven't heard it on drugs, you haven't heard it's full potential! Bliss from start to end. Also, try some Pink Floyd. Dark Side of the Moon will MOVE YOU like no other album. It's greeeeeeeeeeat.

I would have to recommend Blue oyster cult Astronomy. Great deep song. And any Pink Floyd is fantastic but I would try Momentary lapse of reason instead of Darkside as its a little lighter and optimistic. I was very surprised to see mogwai on your list. In my area I am the ONLY mogwai fan. I have to special order their shit. I may have to check some of the other music you listed that I havent heard of. Good luck in your journey.

Try ?-Ziq. If you haven't heard them- get the mp3s of "Secret Stair" and "Tango n' Vectif." Also Talvin Singh. Sort of Indian ambient jungle? try "Searching For Passion" and "Anokha"
Trippiest "song" I have heard is Orb's OOBE from the Peel Sessions. Kind of hard to find. Not the OOBE from their UFOrb album (a totally different song, and not as good.)
I think there's a lot of really upbeat / chill Goa trance, as well as some creepy or intense songs. But if you think Goa's scary you should trip to Coil...

I've heard Dark River, but I'm not sure if it was that mix. But the original is a pretty cool song too. Dark, eerie and sounds like you're in an alien landscape. Once I listened to Musick to Play in the Dark and I swear, I thought the wildlife from the movie Pitch Black was fluttering around the outside of my car. It was a freaky night

um yes.. i know k&d, but oh they are so passe.. so last year you know gmaelfihe, try sphongle.. my friend, they will lead you to the gates of perception...
i was at this outdoor at the start of this year, sheepish you might know the gathering... anyway i was absolutely recoverin that night and laying amongst these big psychedelic sculptures of flowers next to the riverbank, and there was this guy from japan playing the electric harp, absolutely mind blowing, he would take you on a journey lasting forever..i had never been so peaceful, i was sinking into the ground.. that is when i realised that there is more to life than four to the floor... quite obvious in retrospect now. tho

"Relationship of Command" by At the Drive-In is suprisingly psychedelic. Here's my play list. It's full of music that is poppy and up-beat, yet is equally complex and thoughtful: Sonic Team - Metal Madness The Coral - The Oldest Path Brian Wilson - Our Prayer/Heroes and Villains (you should REALLY check out some of the later Beach Boys stuff) the flaming lips - do ya realize (very thoughtful lyrics that i find enjoyable when on THC "instead of saying your goodbyes, let them know you realise the sun doesn't go down, it's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round) Chris Morris - Uzi Lover FUTURE PILOT AKA - witchi tai to Of Montreal - Jaques Lamure karate - Not To Call The Police Super Furry Animals - Juxtapozed With U neutral milk hotel - in the aeroplane over the sea Fant?mas - Rosemary's Baby Mercury Rev - Kiss from an Old Flame A Trip to the Moon beulah - If We Can Land A Man On The Moon

Anything off of Boards of Canada "music has the right to children" disk (Peter Standing alone is my favorite) anything off of Future Sound Of London's "ISDN" disk And: Squarepusher can be fun while tripping... the music actally makes some sense or, if your feeling brave try MATMOS: A Chance to Cut is a Chance to Cure disk (if you can find it..)

Well, I read this whole thread before replying and (this is my first post on The Shroomery by the way) can't believe that only one very enlightened person (The_Clash_UK) mentioned that NOTHING BEATS THE BEATLES! I totally agree!!
Evrey time I trip I listen to the best of Magical Mystery Tour and Sgt. Pepper's followed by Rush-Moving Pictures (wonder where that title came from ), Squeeze-Singles, REO Speedwagon-Hi Infidelity and many varied single tracks like; Harry Nilson's "Jump Into The Fire", Guns 'n' Roses cover of "Sympathy for the Devil" (blows the Stones original away big time!), Edgar Winter Group's "Frankenstein" (mind-blowing), Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpetr Ride", Styx's "Lorelei", War's "Low Rider", Mason Williams' "Classical Gas", the list goes on and on and on.
My favorite song of all time is RUSH's "Limelight"... It's all about tripping (being in the Limelight) Listen to the lyrics! The drums and GUITAR in that song are absolutely phenomenal! I refuse to listen to ANY of the afore-mentioned music unless I'm shroomin'!
BTW- High quality headphones are a MUST!! I use JVC's Digital Ready phones, they compare with Sony 600's but sound a bit smoother in midrange and have more potent, tighter more accurate bass. (about $80 a pair)
Have fun guys!!!

Theres a CD ...... Its a double album....
This music gave me the fuckin-best music-experience I've ever had !ever really EVER!
Its called : A FUNKY HOUSE TRIP mixed by robert de la gauthier! (Theres also a funky house trip number 2 but i didnt hear it!!)
When you first look at the cover.... you know whats goin on! (lots of shrooms are there too )
When the first track starts you will be taken away, faaaaaaaaar away!!!
Its not really house its a so very individual style of music its Fuckin increddible to listen! There where times when we where shroomin and listening to this CD where i thought i'd have to stop the music because it was TOO good and i was on the edge to "cum" mentally or EXPLODE of happiness and so on,......can you imagine that?
Maybe somebody knows or has got this very special CD! When not try to get it anywhere! Its sold out at the most places even at amazon.com!
I love the beatles when trippin they are so heavy-good euphoric happy feelin makin' (especially LSD - Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds ) but they cant beat THIS!
Look out for it..

The Beatles and Pink Floyd are definitely a good place to start. I think its safe to rate Dark Side Of The Moon as one of the (if not THE) greatest trip albums.
Other artists you can't go wrong with are Amethystium,Enigma and Bassic -whom I'd classify as trance/ambient.

Tripmiester, though I'm not a huge Rush fan I do have much respect for their talent. You mentioned the guitar and drums, but failed to say anything about Geddy Lee. The man is an amazing musican! Plays bass, keys, sings, writes the songs. Sorry to be baggin on your fav tune, but c'mon...Limelight is so overplayed. A bands most creative songs are NOT going to be the commercial ones. You should check out "Discovery" off of their 2112 album if you haven't allready. Awesome songwriting! I believe they are going on a tour pretty soon...the first one in I don't know how many years. Plan on seeing them? ~Geddy Lee~ "We've been smoking Lebanon...we burned the midnight oil."

ok, i know you don't want "scary" music, but if there are peeps out there who do... i can't believe nobodies mentioned Throbbing Gristle! the first time i heard them i was trippin on LSD and it shifted my whole perception of the universe! be careful though, it's a bad trip in the making if you're not ready for it (to the guy who mentioned Coil, Peter "Sleazy" Christenson was a founding member of TG). also, check out SpaceTime Continuum. they did some stuff with Terrence McKenna that turned me on to em, then i listened to their solo stuff and it's GREAT (not scary)! just to throw in a shameless self-promotion, i'd appreciate if some people would trip to my tunes at http://fullon.illshit.nu/audio (the songs should be up shortly, and i'll post a real promo on another thread) and lemme know what happens for ya...

Music I can't highly reccomend enough while trippin':
? Shpongle - Are You Shpongled? ? Shpongle - Tales Of The Inexpressible ? Digital Mystery Tour - Digital Mystery Tour
- all wicked chill out
and;
? Infected Mushroom - The Gathering ? Mr. Peculiar - Elements ? Hallucinogen - Twisted ? Hallucinogen - The Lone Derranger
and also, check out the label Demon Tea - in Byron Bay oz, it has the most tripped out psychedelic tunes - a couple of compilations to look for - "Not My Cup Of Tea" and "Oozie goodness"

Have you (or anyone but me) ever heard the 11 minute LONG version of "Time Has Come Today" by The Chambers Brothers? It has a 7.5 minute long totally psychedelic roller-coaster ride of distortion. The first time I listened I was AMAZED! It seemed to show you not only how sound affects/generates images, but the WAY it's done. Totally cool to hear once or twice, not every time!

Hey Greasy...
Overplayed is "Tom Sawyer", "Red Barchetta" but not "Limelight". Especially not for me, 'cause I'll change the station before I'll listen to it sober.
Geddy Lee IS amazing, I find his voice extremly comforting when tripping. I haven't heard "Discovery" tripping, but I'll trust you know what you're talking about (even though you dis'd Limelight) and I will check it out. I do find "The Camera Eye" exeptionally trippy as well.
As I said, Limelight is and will probably be my all time favorite song for the rest of my life. It just totally blows me away. I will never EVER listen to it sober.
Thanks for "Discovery", I'll add it to my list.
Rock on Rush fans!!

Very Cool.
Noone has ever responded about FFTT. (?) it's one of those CD's that can only be Heard by the Bemushroomed. FFTT is an abstract concept album much like DSOTM or 2112. it's best Heard all the Way through...
the Creator of Forest For the Trees is a friend of mine, Carl + the group really need the support of sonic surfers like us; Dreamworks is about to shelve their new project. so if you like the music, please buy the album if you ever see it...

I found "Jellyfish" too, but wasn't as impressed as I was with "Dream". I'd buy the CD in a heartbeat. I'd love to hear the whole thing, not to mention the quality over a 128k .mp3.

i have never heard of a FFTT song called Jellyfish. I know String Cheese Incident has a song called that. i think it's a misprint... i could be wrong though.

Vocals sound very similar, but you may be correct. I have no way to tell for sure.
Song starts wth the sound of a dive.
Lyrics start with;
"Ahhh, for the life of a jellyfish undulating underneath the sea, undernath the sea Ahhh, for the life of a dolphin swimming freely, underneath the sea, underneath the sea"

Well...considering I'm a goa and ambient DJ...I'm a little biased in what I consider good music for tripping. But here are some tracks I think everyone should try and experience while tripping on any psychedelic substance. They're listed by artist name first then song title:
Goa Tracks
1. Chi-AD - I Am The Eye 2. X-Dream - Telegram 3. Vibrasphere - Crystal 4. Filthy Beasts - Degenerate 5. Hallucinogen - Gamma Goblins pt 2 6. Astral Projection - Let There Be Light 7. Double Dragon - Fluffy Purple Thing 8. Darshan - Duck 9. Infected Mushroom - Where is the S? 10. Absolum - Drumatrix (original, not the remix)
Ambient Tracks:
1. Shpongle - Shpongle Falls 2. Chi-AD - The Creator 3. Shpongle - DMT 4. Mindfield - Adrift 5. Digitalis - Kyphi 6. Negativland - The ENTIRE "Escape from Noise" album 7. ANYTHING by The Farenheit Project 8. Children of Dub - Spirals 9. Celtic Cross - The ENTIRE "Hicksville" album 10. Ollie Olson - The ENTIRE "Emptiness" album
Good luck and have fun!
Love & Light,
Boppity
PS - You can find almost, if not all, of these tracks and albums at www.chaosexistence.com or www.psyshop.com

You rock for having Kraftwerk in your mixes!
Have you ever heard of a Dutch Goa dj named Wouter Thomassen? He's a good friend of mine...just curious.

You rock for having Kraftwerk in your mixes! Thanx! old Kraftwerk Rulezzz (Organisation is even better) Have you ever heard of a Dutch Goa dj named Wouter Thomassen? He's a good friend of mine...just curious. no, I've never heard of him, but I never listen to Goa so that's probably not so strange, don't know many DJ's either (btw, are you Dutch?) a lot of people say that Pink Floyd has some trippy music, but most of them listen to "I wish you where here" or "dark side of the moon". My personal opinion is that 'the Piper at the Gates of Dawn', 'a Saucerful of Secrets', 'Umma Gumma', 'Meddle' and 'Atom Heart Mother' are much better for trippin' It also surprises me no one has mentioned 'Iron Butterfly - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida'. btw does anyone know Caroliner ? they have some weird shit, but It's pretty difficult to get your hands on. ( I've got 10 LP's of them )

Dude I love Orb...but only in ambient/downtempo sets. I wouldn't consider that trance.
>>I just ordered Hallucinogenic/twisted from amazon and looking forward to that.
Simon has a brilliant ear for both his music and his psychedelia...very inspiring if you're looking to produce. If you're specifically interested in Goa and Psychedelic Ambient check out this post I did last month:
Music & Other Links
You can also send me a private message and I can hook you up with goa production specific websites and such.
Peace,

>>great headphone music
All psychedelic music is great for headphones. One of the main points of production with psychedelic music is assigning different elements of a track to different quadrants in the accoustic "room" that the stereo signals create around you. Recording ambient music and selected samples with bi-naural microphones only adds more depth to the trance space/headroom.

I love music that creates circular movements through the headphones and dips in and out of each headphone ear. Coil does this quite a lot, and it's insane to listen to on headphones.

Get anything by Squarepusher because he also is a mushroom tripper and he knows how it feels to trip and space out and make music at the same time.
Go get Squarepusher - Tundra. Very fucking cold trippy song.
