no link that I know of.......just word of mouth.

just soak the Coco Coir in water and hydrate it....for about an hour.

some people don't sterile or pasturize it.

I do.....and have never gotten a contam from the stuff.

I put mine in a pyrex dish and add 2" of water over the top of the Coco Coir.
then stick it in the oven at 350 degrees for a little over an hour.
then let it cool down.
drain off the extra water.
squeeze off the extra water as you cover your casing.
It should only be moist......not wet.
better drier that too wet....you can spray it with a spray bottle later if need be.
too wet and you will get contams......the GREEN.

You want 1/4" of Coco Coir per 1" of substrate.

Mycelium will rip through Coco Coir so watch it like a Hawk!
some strains are so aggressive you don't really have to put the casing back into the Incubator.....example....Puerto Rican, Floriduh White, PESA and South American...cause they are pron to overlay!
When using Coco Coir as a casing layer.....I check my casings every 8 hours.
I suggest you do the same!

good luck!

Coco Coir is the husk of a coconut. It's fiberous and holds hella water and is very resistant to contams. I've had a hard time finding it at garden stores. Look at a pet store for 'bed-a-beast' It comes in a brick the size of a breadpan roughly.

What is the method used to case with it? One layer of coco coir, then the mycelia crumbled up, topped off with another layer of coco coir? Im not sure exactly how to case with this......

EDIT: i just realized that roadkill already spelled-out the whole process above. sorry for the repeat...

you just bust it up into pieces in a bowl, pour water over it and let it soak it all up. (don't fill the bowl up too much, 'cause it will overflow once it starts soaking up water and expanding) you take your saturated coir and squeeze out water until you get the right moisture content. put a small layer (1/2-3/4") at the bottom of your pan and spread your crumbled substrate evenly over it. put another 1/2-1" of wet husk on top.

it's super simple, and recently i've heard about folks just casing the top layer with good results.

take care! stay safe...
