Autoclave, the uv kind?

Alright, so these things really interest me. How well would UV autoclaves work for sterilizing mushroom substrates (rye/brown rice, verm)? my guess is not so well.
as seen here:

anyone have any recommendations for purchasing autoclaves in general besides 'stick with a pressure cooker'?

Won't be effective at all. Endospores will probably survive. Grain has alot of nooks and crannies that will shade from the light.

That's why I figured, it kills things on surfaces because of the light. It does not use heat like a normal autoclave right?

Correct, it uses UV-C light radiation.

I've never used UV for mushies, but I have used it for my saltwater reef tank.
UV light kills microbes, some easier than others. UV will kill mold and alga spores easily, bacteria is tougher and requires longer exposure, parasites are the hardest to kill. Anything that forms a cyst is very hard to kill with UV.
Fish tanks with UV serialization are not sterile; it only controls parasitical outbreaks, but it will not eradicate microbes
In order for UV light to sterilize WATER, the water needs to be less than 1 inch wide and needs to be exposed for as long as possible (this is usually done with a low water flow over the light). I can't imagine how light is supposed to penetrate solid matter like h/poo.
Although I'm not sure, I don't think UV light is safe either. It's not something I would want to expose myself to regularly.
Ozone is used similarly. Ozone is more effective, but it's even more hazardous.
-------------------- Look at the atoms in the air and allow your mind to see the other planes that coexists in the same physical space where you sit. There are vibrational strings in each and every atom containing infinite realities, universes, and dimensions. Multidimensional beings and entities are RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!!! Only gravity and mental energy can pass through these different atomic branes and mushrooms can break the mental/spiritual membranes separating one reality from the other. TAKE A LOOK!

UV-C light is harmful to your skin and eyes. It'll burn both if you expose yourself to it.
UV-C is generally only helpful for sterilizing already mostly clean surfaces or for sterilizing AIR (it can be used to sanitize water, but it does take awhile and a lot of wattage). They can be really useful in keeping a glovebox environment sterile (while not in use, of course.)
For example, if you have a GB with a built in UV-C lamp, you can cover your spore or LC syringe (or spawn jar, or any other desirable biological) with aluminum foil (wrap a couple layers, to be sure none of it gets exposed) and put all your work items in the GB (if you want to go REALLY overboard, swab the aluminum foil and all surfaces you'll be covering with the foil with alcohol.) Cover the GB with a cardboard box or something similar to keep yourself from getting exposed, and then flip on the UV-C switch. Then, let the UV-C work for 30 minutes. Come back, switch the light off (FIRST,) remove the cardboard, and start working.
The only time I would bother with a setup with this is if I was doing an insane amount of G2G though, personally. It's really overkill for most people.
