Question about breaking up mycelium

Im wondering... I have a mycobag that has been colonizing for close to 40 days now and is only 50% colonized. Half of the 50% is on the left side and half is one the right side. Should I just completely break up the mycelium and spread it around the whole bag, or should I break off a couple small chunks and spread them around. I completely broke up the mycelium once in another mycobag, to the point where it was about the size of a BB and the whole bag colonized pretty quick.. but Im wondering if the this is bad for the mycelium. Also if it isnt.. why do people say : gently break up the mycelium and spread it around. thanks

break it up dude, you wont get it to small by hand, maybe with a blender or food processor, but not just crumbling it in the bag. the more pieces, the more inoc sites. so it will spread faster. kinda like shaking a jar of grain, in theory, sorta

you can break it up by hand.....and move the colonized peices around a bit in the bag to get it going again.
I had this problem with my Acadian Coast bag.....it was slower than "F".
I had to do this several times....grrrrrr.
now its ready to pin....and it was started on 4-18-02.
myco bags smell strong!!!!!
