I wish people would stop holding open doors for me....
    #6668652 - 03/14/07 02:29 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

I am quite capable of doing this myself.

I just hate how I'll be walking along, deep in thought, and then I realize someone 10 feet ahead of me has stopped and is holding the door open for me, then I feel the need to hurry up and grab it.

WTF?

What is the purpose of this ritual?

I will hold the door open for an old person, or a pretty girl.  But I am 24, obviously have the use of all my limbs, and am not a girl.

I can open the door!!!

Christ, but I'm crankey today.

:crankey:

Sometimes it's just nice holding a door open for someone.

I usually open doors for people if they are within a reasonable distance from the door, regardless of how old they are or what sex they are. Nothing wrong with a little courtesy now and again.

Yeah, I think my "Resaonable Distance" is like, 2 steps.

More than that, and you're just inconveniencing me by making me walk faster.

if someone is right behind me or a few seconds behind me, I'll usually wait for them and hold the door...no reason not to, I'm in no rush

Next time it will be the other way someone is going to close it on your nose and it will make it bleed. then your thread will be about no manners of courtesy on people.

Also depnds were you are. You will never have that problem where I live. This is the city of no manners.

Yeah, this is in the midwest, so....

Wisconsinites have EXTREMELY good manners, even in their biggest city.

Its very strange coming from Chicago. People will let you merge into traffic, they hold doors open, and they dont talk on their cell-phone in the library.

Big change.

On college campuses if you don't hold the door you are the biggest fucking asshole in the world.

But yes, it has to be a reasonable distance, like, if you are the door holder you should only have to slow down a step or two in order for it to be open enough for the person behind you. Otherwise, just keep walking, maybe give it an extra little push so it looks like you put in an effort.

Yet, you would probably make another thread about the asshole who slammed the door shut just as you got there.  Pick something else to bitch about.

Strange. Why does the need to be nice back cause you so much distress?

You aren't obligated to be nice back, so if you don't want to hurry up for them, don't.

5-10+ft for girls depending on attractiveness

3ft for guys

It pisses me off how far ahead some people are who hold open doors. I always figure they must be the same morons who think they are being courteous because they put on their blinker 5 blocks before their turn.

I've been hating my classes up at university. My main motivation to get my BS has now become the slight chance that I'll be able to be a JET for at least a year afterwards.
