drinking snow
    #6656861 - 03/10/07 08:28 PM (16 years, 11 months ago)

one of my friends said that if you ever get lost in the mountains and are thirsty that is it bad to eat snow because your body uses more energy to digest it or something and youd be better off drinking your urine... is this true??? my opinion is its not but who knows... i know the drinking salt water is bad but snow???

Besides just being full of dirt, if you are stranded in the mountains and there's snow around, it's probably pretty cold. You would be using a lot more energy just warming up the snow than say your pee. If I were stranded with no other water source I'd probably use my pee to melt the snow and then drink the diluted/dirty pee. But that's just me.

Loosing calories doesnt really compare to dehydration.

Id drink that snow, and lots of it.
Depending on how cold it was, I would eat the snow before drinking my own piss.

Though, reading up on piss would help.
I know that drinking piss is not a terrible idea when in such a situation.
People squeeze water out of elephant dung in parts of africa when they are dehydrated and cant find water.

The best thing to do, especially in freezing conditions, is to melt snow before drinking it. Just eating snow can lower your core temperature.

"If I were stranded with no other water source I'd probably use my pee to melt the snow and then drink the diluted/dirty pee."

This is actually a great idea but keep in mind that after recycling three or four times, your urine starts to become toxic to your body. (I don't know the science behind this, it's just what I've been taught)

On storing pedro tea...

Brewmaster: Well, the mescaline will still be in there, but I'd be afraid of it conjealing and trying to escape after it grew in size from eating all the other shit in my fridge, and possibly my dogs if it got out.

Pithlit: sentient drugs, now that is an idea ...

OneMoreRobot: Idea? It's a fuckin' reality. You know Salvia? Nigga stole my TV.

In a survival situation you'd have very little pee,, next to nothing before long, and the salt in your urine would dehydrate you.

You could maybe make a slush pee drink once lol,, nice treat..

I'd rather melt the snow with my breath,, maybe try and create some insulation to warm it up.

In that situation your pretty screwed though,,, eating snow's only going to make it worse..
