CO2 Build Up Everywhere?
    #6662533 - 03/12/07 08:57 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

i have multiple fruiting chambers in a tool box that is solid at the bottom. i have holes in the fruiting chambers to allow CO2 out.

will this CO2 drain into the bottom of the tool box and build up down there?

when i fan with my hand held fan, how easily will the CO2 be pushed out?

Make sure you have holes top and bottom. Even with that, you should fan. CO2 is heavier than air, but not much denser, so it doesn't drain the way water would. It will still build up even with holes. Fan as often as you think of it, but at least several times per day for best results.

i've been fanning every three hours that i can, and at least fanning every eight hours a day.

but should i start taking all of them out of the tool box and fanning it as well?

That should be enough. Long, spindly stems is a sign of too high a CO2 level, and green molds are a sign of insufficient air exchange.

That could also be high CO2. If your strain normally has fat stems, that's it. Otherwise, genetics. That's what oyster mushrooms do with high CO2 levels. Big fat worthless stems and little to no caps. Cubes normally have skinny long stems like enoki in a high CO2 environment, so I suspect genetics first.

I had a entire sweater box of Texans like that.they were short and fat,the pulled a lot of casing with them and were impossible to clean, especially the ones that I took to long to pick,by the time they were dry it was all brown shake in the bag between all the dried casing and the broken crumbled brown gills of the caps

Come to think of it I still have that bag that looks like a bag of dirt,I'm to lazy to sift through it,I will have to just give it to someone as a project and tell them to keep what they find just cause I would like to see how long it would take someone to clean it:lol:
