Low temp fruiting.
    #6644417 - 03/07/07 06:23 AM (17 years, 1 month ago)

Hello all! Thanks for all of the advice you've already given me, and all of the advice I'll probably ask for!

Things are going well. I had five trays going in the FC for the past week, lost one to the green earlier in the week. (caught it early and removed to from the FC, It's going to get transplanted into a flower pot and left outside when the weather improves). I've got some nice, healthy myc popping through the casing on all of the trays. RH is holding steady at 85%, coolmist running 24/7 with indirect misting twice a day.

My only problem is that it's pretty cold in here, the temp stays between 66F and 68F. Should I try to bring it up a bit, or just leave it alone and see what happens?

Thanks!

I think I would give it a go at those temps. One of the very few differences I've noticed between strains is that some do well at cooler temps. B+, for one does good at cooler temps. 66-68 F should be fine for any cubensis.
Keep an eye on that mycelium that you see "popping through" . The green always starts out as white and can be mistaken as mycelium.

Quality is better at those temps, even though they grow a tad slower.

Quality as in potency you mean? can you explain this one to me RR? maybe I can answer my own question.... slower growth = more time for actives to swell up in the organism? Maybe I should try this...

Actually, that's how I caught the green in the first place. I noticed some white spots that weren't connected to the larger organism and pulled the tray for inspection. Once i got it under my soldering lamp/magnifying glass I knew what was going on. The tray was immediately sealed and taken from the area. It's a shame though, there are some nice knots forming on it as we speak. Hopefully it will do well outside.

Excellent. I'll scrap my plans to pick up a space heater and see how things turn out. All I really want this time around is one good fruit to clone.

Yes. Food quality is also better.

makes sense that the later fruiting oysters are bursting with flavor in comparison to the ones growing earlier and in the warmer part of the season (in midwest anyways) ---- colder temps later in the season having much to do with this is what you're saying?

Makes sense to me now that it was pointed out...

Just wanted to let everyone know that I woke up this morning to discover PINS! It might not be much, but for a noob who went with a rather complicated setup it's like christmas morning!

Well, the temp is still riding right around 66 and I've got pins flying off of my casings at all angles. Growth is slow but steady. Those first pins are slightly under a quarter of an inch now and nearly every inch of the casing layer is showing pins (not counting my out-of-control side pinning). All of my babies are fat, and seem to be gaining width at a 1H to 3/4W ratio. I've continued my indirect misting twice a day.

The casing a removed from its tray is filthy with pins on all sides.

I really didn't expect things to work out this way.

Pics are coming... just have to get a camera that isn't attached to a cellphone.
