Are these mutants?
    #6661901 - 03/12/07 03:55 PM (17 years, 21 days ago)

or is this caused by water dripping onto the mushrooms?

also, i read that fat shrooms are caused by perfect conditions, is this true? or are these shrooms fat because certain conditions are not being met?

thanks.

O.o pretty kick ass though even if they are mutants. You should like clone them.... make more mutant ones. If they are fat but ugly who cares, just remember EVERYTHING you eat ends up looking like shit in the long run.

no, they are fine to eat, they just look a little messed up. they are a mushroom that is mutated. demented. ugly. banned from society. derelict. but still loved.

im just trying to figure out if these are looking like this from water dripping onto them, if there even was water dripping on to them.

lysol in FC area?

i agree with brshroomer, dont think it is water.

i would try to imagine any time i may have exposed cake to cleaning agents, thinking mainly lysol/alchohal.

i used clorox bleach wipes to clean the FC out before using it. at first i was using water with a tad bit of h202 in it and then i switched to pure water.

normally, petrolleum based chemicals cause mutations...if you didn't used any, could be only a normal mutation...as they may naturally(but very rarely) occur...

what you're using as fc? maybe it has to do with that...but that's just a guess...

my fc is a SnapWare container that is made to hold coffe beans.  i've used them before without any mutations.  maybe these wipes im using do have some petrolleum based chemicals in them...ill have to do a little research.

Just a question... How old are they? They look to be a week old,
and if that's the case, it is definitely a mutation caused by petroleum.

I had 2 casings that were growing mutants JUST like that and I had no idea
why because they were getting constant fresh air, I then discovered
what petroleum does and realized I was using an old fabric freshener
spray bottle to mist them. Went to WalMart and bought an empty spray
bottle and that completely fixed my problem.

If this is a mutation caused by petroleum; don't expect your second
flush to produce normal fruits. All later flushes on the casing I
sprayed with petroleum continued growing mutants because of the
chemical being absorbed into the casing layer.

those two mushrooms started to pin about 5 days ago. two days after that, the rest came in. they keep getting bigger and fatter.

did you notice any potency loss?

i still have one last casing to make on friday after a 24 hour dunk. ill just wipe down the FC with an alcohol swab and see if there is a difference.

Definitely sounds like petroleum. Same exact thing happened to me.
I would get a crappy pinset, they would mature a few days, then a
bunch more would show up but then abort before they matured to the
size of the fruits that pinned a few days previous.

Nope, no potency loss at all. The majority of them aborted a few days
early. I ate 2 grams dry and if anything they were a little bit more
potent.

i got a decent pinset off of this casing though. i have three more casings that im expecting to pin within a few days(in fact, i think one already has these things on it), so im think RR is correct, and it's genetics.

this is what they started off looking like...

that picture is from another thread. they where white balls with little brown spots that later turned into the cap.
