Size of field, does it matter?

I was cruising around for some more fields, I found some huge huge huge fields. So my question is does the size matter?
I probably will still check the first field I found since I have a place to hide my car nearby... My plan is to not ask permissions and just do it around 3:00 am.

You should ask permission, if its on a farmer's land.

i don't see why the size of the field would matter except that the cow shit will be more spread out, hence more walking. but other than that tho i'd say it doesn't matter. be careful

It's not about size, it's about technique, man.

yeah but I'm shy about asking some farmer...
I want to but I need to work up the courage to ask.
It's weird having a 25 year old dude asking you if he can check out their field...
I may try night hunting once and then ask permission after wards to hunt during the day.
Thanks for the advice...
Try my best to please.

Tell him you're a mycologist doing a survey in the area and would like to look for specimens in his field.

seems like they would have heard the mycologist, student mycologist excuse by now, and anyone who has watched the news before has probably seen something about actives and people getting caught, etc. Farmers who raise cattle, and have fields that produce, have probably encountered trespassers before and know what they are after, so really wouldn't it be better to just tell them the truth and offer a fee possibly, or not tell them at all and pull some James Bond shit on their field. There are plenty of fields that have little to no risk of being seen, even in the daylight. Just gotta look and have patience. Has anyone actually used the mycologist ploy and been successful?

Yes. I have and so have many others. When you tell them you are studying mycology, and taking photos, collecting specimens, they usually get really curious, and ask a few questions, before telling you to take all the mushrooms you want. Don't dress like a hippy.
Throwing out a few latin names never hurt.

hehe I will try.
I found some really secluded fields today.
The other day I drive by a humongous field, I mean like acres with 100+ cows! WOW.

I won't trespass in cow pastures anymore. The shrooms are not worth how badly one could be punished for being apprehended by the coppers. Too risky for me now a days.
I found a loop hole though. I work for a land surveying company which often puts me into cow and horse pastures at work (with permission to be on land i would otherwise not be legally authorized to be on).
Asking a farmer for permission is a very good place to start. Tho, most of the time you find a field which produces shrooms and does not have a house on the property with a door to knock on and ask.
Find your own way to hunt on pastures with permission and you are home free.
