Have you ever heard of Damp Gone? It is also calcium chloride, kinda looks like brown kitty litter. I actually have trouble finding it sometimes, but it works and can be regenerated fairly easily by placing in 400 degree oven for about an hour and a half. If anyone actually knows a supplier or source of Damp Gone, please post it after you read this. Anyway the reason behind my post is to ask Shroom God this. I have used a fan, but it turned my shrooms a very dark color. Is this normal? I placed them on a grate in front of the fan, not on the fan itself, which seems like it would be less effective, but less damiging, if that is what I did to them? Any thoughts??????

Foster, I think DampGone is calcium chloride with a clay binder or some such to prevent it from "melting" in to chunks. I have heard of it, but I haven't used it.As for the strong bluing action under a fan, I sometimes get this and other times do not. I too am curious about it, but I don't think shrooms that turn more blue necessarily have been more damaged. I've had plenty of super strong shrooms that blued heavily during drying and others that did not. I really don't know what it means. ShroomGod

Hi ShroomGod,You should consider trying potassium carbonate. It is extremely hygroscopic. I left a small amount out in my garage, and in only a few hours it had sucked so much water out of the air that it had become an oil! ------------------ I walk through mindfields.

Calcium phosphate isn't listed as hygroscopic in my chem list, so I'd say it isn't.------------------ I walk through mindfields.

nice blast from the past. i concur with his evaluations. my only revision would be the price cited for 'flower art' silica gel, which was ~$7 US for 5 pounds at last check.considering its' wide availability, [hobby lobby, walmart, crafts stores], its' re-usability, low toxicity, and general effectiveness, silica gel is my best pick. esp. if you pre-dry with a fan/breeze.
