Edible Aborts?

What's the concensus re: aborts and their edibility? Can you scarf those little guys or what? The tiny caps were turning black so I picked 'em before the rot set in and am awaiting the second flush of my first experimental cake (the other 6 will be birthed tonight). But I'm wondering if I should keep or toss the aborts that came with the first flush? Thoughts?

Picke em' early and eat em'. I mean first sign. If you wait too long they will turn black and eventually they begin to look slimy and greenish blue as they rot. Do not eat these.

How long of a period of time will you know if the shroom has aborted? Are we talking a matter of a day or two? Or simply based on the shroom not getting any bigger? If you have a lot of aborts will it affect your overall cake if you harvest the aborts before the rest of the fruit bodies? I'm gonna be using a Pod for my cakes so anyone who uses the pod I'd especially be interested in knowing if you've noticed more or less occurances of aborts versus terrarium cakes.
