TiT Question
    #6653889 - 03/09/07 09:02 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

I have a tub-in-tub setup with an 150w aquarium heater. On average the hottest it gets is 75 degrees. I live in the northeast so the weather is a bit chilly around here these days. My cakes have been developing fine but at a slower pace. Today I purchased a second aquarium heater but soon realized that was kinda pointless since they automatically detect the temperature anyway and turn on/off accordingly, so the temp has been about the same. Do I have any other options? I'd run the heat in my apt longer but my electric bill is already costing me a pretty penny. I have the digital thermometer reading the inside tub containing the jars. Should it be reading the outer tub? Thanks for any help

Try to find an adjustable fish tank heater and crank it up till you get your desired temp. Wrap that TIT in a blanket to help insulate it and the outside temp won't affect the inside so much. Leave your thermometer inside where the jars are thats the temp you're worried about.

Is the 2nd tub pushed down enough so its completely surounded by water? if not, make sure its surounded by water.

Have you tried using any kind of insulation? trying using blankets to insulate the most likely places for heat loss, or you could use a styrofoam cooler to insure insulation.

Since you have two fish tank heaters, you could put a heat bomb in the second tub
