Yoga VS Pilates
    #6628699 - 03/02/07 04:37 PM (16 years, 11 months ago)

I have a real bad back (grumbling ‘disc’-related pain). I need to get some core strengthen to protect it but also need to stretch my back and legs so I have a bit more flex in me. I have not done yoga or pilates before so don't know which would be best for me. Any help would be great.

In my experience the teacher is often more important than the exact discipline, especially when just starting out. I sugest finding a teacher who fits your style and is responsive to your needs.

I do a very active job so just need to build up and stretch. I'm sure the teacher is important but there is 10 -15 teachers near here of each so I wanted some advice on which to go with.

if im not mistaken... yoga is more for stretching / flexibility and pilates are more for stamina / strength.

i'd go with either yoga or feldenkrais

either will have to use your body better and to stretch the muscles that are too short, when your muscles are too short you don't use your bones in the right way causing much more stress/pain...

Yoga is mainly stretching and pilates is mainly core strength and stabilization.
And like Brainiac said do some fast walking.
