Citrus in substrate

Anyone add Citrus(lemon, or orange) to their jar(s) before PCing them. I find that citric acid and Vitamin C accelerate mushroom growth. Fungi do use the Glyoxylate cycle; a modified form of the Krebs cycle. Wouldn't what determines the rate of growth in a fungi, especially a mushroom, be its ability to consume carbs and burn energy.

That's part of the reason coffee helps speed up colonization of grains as well. As long as you're growing in sterile conditions, such as a jar with filters, it's fine. I wouldn't use it in a substrate or casing though because it will encourage molds, which also prefer an acidic pH. Mushroom mycelium is more tolerant of a high pH, that's why we use lime.
