Mycelium overcoming contams?
    #664476 - 06/05/02 02:48 PM (23 years, 1 month ago)

A few weeks ago I inoculated 11 jars, and 10 got contams. Anyways, I forgot the vermiculite layer on top of the jars and they got this black stuff inside of them. Like a black condensation on the sides of the jars. I figured they were goners but I haven't had time to clean them out. They've been in a box for weeks and I just looked at them today and it looks like the mycelium is growing well and the black is almost gone.

I'm not planning on eating them, but has anyone ever had this happen before? I'm wondering because I want to know if I should let them grow or just clean them out?

Well, mycelia is a contam, i suppose, but it's a contam that we want, which makes it not a contam... I wonder if there was ever a sceintist in a lab trying to grow black mold and got pissed off when his petri-dishes were overcome with mycelia. Now that would be some good irony.

Nevermind...It's not even mycelium. Well a little, but mostly just cobweb if cobweb can be black too, other wise it's something else.
