peoples lame excuses for showing up late
    #6641331 - 03/06/07 12:43 PM (17 years, 27 days ago)

lets say someone is supposed to show up at 8 pm but comes 30-45 minutes later..

stupid excuses I've heard lately:

-I still had to post some letters
-I was talking to someone on the phone
-I had to unpack my bag

wtf is wrong with people. is it that hard to plan ahead?
For example when I'm talking to someone on the phone but I have to go I just say so and show up on time

lets hear what kind of excuses you've run into lately

I cant think of any but that phone excuse isn't an excuse at all. That is saying "I could have been here on time, and was fully aware of it, but I kept talking on the phone".

Hope you here less excuses.

Stupid excuses should be cause for docking the employee's pay for at least a few hours of work. That way they'll come up with excuses that are more believable, yet you'll still know they're just excuses.

Some people are incapable of arriving on time. For certain friends I tell them to meet me 30 minutes before I want them to be there. I don't understand how somebody can be so reliably, predictably late, but I have met many that are.

If I'm late for work it's either of the two:

1) I slept through my alarm, or in the rare case, I simply forgot to set it

2) The bus didn't show up or was extremely late. It's kind of annoying when the bus shows up, because there's little I can do about it. Yes, I have a car, but fuck driving in peak hour traffic, then having to battle to find a parking spot for free in the back roads.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to dock someone's pay unless they are salary.

i've never heard any extraordinary excuses for being late...

but one time when I was waiting tables for this asshole male chavanist pig i was late because my kitten had pulled my alarm clock out of the socket... and this was before the day of everyone using their fancy cell phones for alarms. I think i had like a nokia 5170, those old dinosaur phones with the green screens... anyway, anyone's who has ever had a cat knows they LOVE to play in wires, especially when they're young and haven't been beat enough to know not to do it.

he didn't believe and told me there was no point clocking in and I had that day off to "think about it". Then he said if I ever clocked in 1 minute late again he'd fire me.

he was an ass.

but i told you that story to tell you this story. a few years after i quit that nasty place and was working in corporate america. well i just happen to read this article about tardiness in the work place and one of the little things on the webpage was "worst excuses for being late" and employers had submitted the funniest excuse they ever heard for being late.

and amoung those excuses are "my cat unplugged my alarm clock"

it didn't credit the person who submitted the excuse, but every now and then, while I'm setting my alarm clock and my cat is snoozing next to me, I wonder about whether or not my reason stuck with that asshole and spawned him to submit his answer to a web poll on MSN business website...

it's just a matter of priorities.

you can learn a lot about someone's character by listening to their excuses, and how humble yet respectful they hold themselves.
so many people just dont give a damn.

I usually say I forgot or overslept, but if it's one of those day I'll flat out tell them I didn't feel like coming in that early

most bosses are assholes and they expect you to come up with some kind of explanation. I usually just say i over slept and she is all like, what do you mean you overslept? why? what? is your watch broken?

Im going to start making outrageous claims instead.

Something that's happened to me a few times was I had the morning runs. I'd run out to catch the bus, realize I'm gonna shit myself if I don't get to a bathroom soon, and have to run back to my house.

I hate that shit. Luckily, when it happened my employers took pity on me.
