Anyone have personal experience with E. coca var. ipadu - A lowland rain forest variety propagated by cutting - or E. novogranatense var. truxillense - The most flavourful; developed to grow in drier areas - or can these only survive in higher altitudes?

Thanks, I'm not seriously thinking of cultivation, just wondered if it was even possible.

All Erythroxylum spp will survive at low altitudes but they might not be as strong as the ones from the high Andes.

Don't think it has to do with the altitude really, probably more sun-hours, sun-strength soil conditions and all that stuff.

Could it be another UV affected potency plant?

higher THC production has been found to be directly related to higher levels of UV radiation, which is naturally found at higher altitudes
Take me higher means so much more

Could higher UV levels be simulated via a UV lamp to increase bud potency then?
sorry for the thread hijack nam

I think that is the reason some growers use them towards the end of budding

Why? CO2 is heavier than oxygen --> high altitude low CO2

It is a myth that they need high altitude and it's a myth that UV helps them. Lots of pot growers believe that myth or think it makes the pot stronger. E coca or e. novo can grow at any altitude. I have e novos and posted a thread a week or so back with a pic. I need to post a pic of my seedlings which I do have a few available if you are in the states. I won't even try to ship them past the border because of problems with customs.
E novo likes water with a ph of around 5.5 and you can approximate that with ph test strips and using vinegar or phosphoric acid. Most plants like water a little more acid than tap water which is usually around 8.0 or higher. E novo will grow on tap water but if you want it to really thrive you give it the best. Rain water is slightly acid so that will work. They drop leaves all the time and grow new ones.
Another tip for growing e novo is don't overfert it. They are naturally a little pale kind of lime green. If you fert it enough that it gets good and green it's over ferted and next thing might be leaf burn.

Sorry Stonehenge, I did a search and your thread from last week didn't appear. If a moderator wants to lock this and link it to his thread that's fine with me. Oh, I have a changed my mind... with recent news that it is still legal, I am now seriously considering cultivation. I've kept my Sally alive for half a decade so I have high hopes for this one. I am aware that it would be an unrealistic means of getting cocaine hcl, but I would like to expand its biodiversity and want to toast the leaves and do it up native style
