Aluminum containers for rye/casing...problem

hey all
the first batch of rye i had i used plastic containers. unfortunately they weren't opaque so it fucked up the pinning process. so this time i got aluminum pans. something is wrong with the process and i'm wondering if anyone else has tried to use aluminum or other metal containers w/o problems. i thought perhaps something being secreted by the mycelium or the lime/oyster shell from the 50/50+ was reacting and causing some problems. after the colonized grain was cased, the containers were covered with aluminum foil to keep out like. the inside of the aluminum foil had turned a blackish color. anyone know what's going on? should i just stick to plastic containers? if so, were can i get a good OPAQUE plastic container. haven't been able to find anything suitable in any stores. thanks

Don't worry it's OK. The blackish tint is a chemical process in the aluminum. I've used aluminum baking pans and not had a problem. It was discussed a few weeks ago, and I don't remember anyone saying this caused a problem. Eventually the aluminium will deterate and there will be small holes in the pans. I pitch (recycle) them at this point. If you want to use plastic you can paint the outside or duct tape works too. Peace, Bob
