Spikes on mycelium

I have some bulk cakes I made and have put into my GH. It is WBS spawned to a mix of worm castings/coir and a bit of coffee and kelp meal.
I put 2 of them in the GH on wed. and one of them has some knots on it but the other one has these spikes coming out all over the top. I tried to take a picture but my camera couldn't really capture them. They look like 1cm tall and maybe 1mm in diameter and they are all over the top...just wandering what they might be.

most likely primordia.
roadkill has a picture he flashes around that you can probley relate too. unless it's gray looking and thin, then it's most likely cobweb.

Aerial rhizomorphs, usually because they're searching for moisture from the air. You can tell from roadz pic above the cake is dry from the bluing. That's caused by the standing water in the perlite, which renders the perlite useless. Mycelium can be quite creative in finding ways to survive. RR

What would cause it if they're not looking for moisture RR ?
I've got a bunch of spikes on one of mine , and there is no shortage of moisture .

Genetics in that case. Rhizo's are a good thing. RR

I was under the impression that it was just aggressive mycelium but the moisture thing sounds logical as well.

Well I have 2 of the same bulk cakes in my GH, actually set up similar to HC's...Just a coolmist pumping into the GH 24/7 and the bottom is covered in plastic so keep humidity in...
I don't have a hygrometer but its humid enough to build up on the sides and top of the GH, and cause some drips down the sides, so i assumed thats high enough RH for what I'm doin.
like I said before, as of right now I have 2 of em in there, and only 1 has this, while the other just has some knots starting to form. They are 2 dif. strains and both multispore.
Also, they have some light condensation on them as well.
