Have you ever known someone...
    #6620738 - 02/28/07 04:44 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Who would not admit they were wrong under any circumstances?

I know this one guy who's like that about everything. Most of the time I just get pissed off and drop it, but today he took it a little too far.
We were discussing marijuana and cigarettes and he said something about cigarettes killing people and I said something like "Yea, and marijuana hasn't even been linked to one single death."
He says "That's not true." As matter-of-factly as I can, I say back, "Yea it is." Back and forth for a bit and I say "Fine, show me where you read this." He of course says "I can't, it got taken down."
"How convenient", I reply.

Anyway, this was right as we were leaving, so I told him that I know he cannot prove to me under any circumstances that what he said is true, but I can prove to him that I'm telling the truth and I'm going to have that proof tomorrow. But I wouldn't doubt he'll still say he's right and I'm wrong.

So where I'm going with this is: Have any of you ever known someone who would never, ever admit they were wrong under and circumstances no matter how ridiculously ignorant what they're saying is? (Incorrect sentence, I know)

I swear I just want to go ballistic on people like this. It's one of my few pet peeves.

The funny thing is they actually believe themselves to the fullest extent.

Always.

I find those kinds of people are usually one-uppers as well. They piss me off to no end.

Prove his ass wrong. There's plenty of evidence to support your claim..

Actually one guy died due to marijuana once...

when 3 tons fell on him at the factory

Being 'right' is the dumbest of things to aspire to. I know a few people like that guy... I pity them. He'll spend most of his life alienating his friends, learning nothing, missing every chance to grow... let him be 'right'. Just don't fall into the same trap.

See, that's the thing. I have no problem whatsoever admitting it when I'm wrong. Most of the time when I'm right and he or someone else like him is doing that stuff, I'll just let it go because it only makes me angry anyway and I know there's no convincing them. But this is a subject that I'm not going to let him play this game with. That's how ignorance and misinformation about marijuana and other such drugs gets spread, and I'm just fed up with it.

The truth will set us free.

There is something immensely liberating about letting others be 'right' most of the time.

Most of the time.

At least you're picking your battles wisely.

Ben Folds - Bastard

The old bastard left his ties and his suit
A brown box, mothballs and bowling shoes
and his opinion so you'd never have to choose
Pretty soon, you'll be an old bastard too
You get smaller while the world gets big
The more you know you know you don't know shit
The whiz man'll never fit you like the whiz kid did

So why you gotta act like you know when you don't know?
It's okay if you don't know everything
Why you gotta act like you know when you don't know?
It's okay if you don't know everything

Close your eyes close your ears young man
You've seen and heard all an old man can
Spread the facts on the floor like a fan
throw away the ones that make you feel bad

Kids today gettin' old too fast
they can't wait to grow up so they can get some ass
They get nostalgic about the last ten years
before the last ten years have passed

why you gotta act like you know when you don't know?
It's okay if you don't know everything
Why you gotta act like you know when you don't know?
It's okay if you don't know everything

Tears land on a hand on the chest
The old bastard had a paradigm arrest

You got smaller and the world got big
The more you knew we knew we didn't know shit
The whiz man never fit him the whiz kid did

Why you gotta act like you know when you don't know?
cause It's okay if you don't know everything
Why you gotta act like you know when you don't know?
It's okay if you don't know everything

My mom is never wrong and will not under any circumstances admit that she has ever done anything wrong. If you call her out on having done something she'll come back with an endless list of excuses -- "Well I did it because...", "I had to because...", etc. I believe in NO REGRETS, but being incapable of apologizing and admitting you were wrong is fucking insanity.
