Habitat: ground, underneath pine trees and around cactus, growing through pile needles

Gills: orange

Stem: orange, slightly fragile, apx. 2cm at base

Cap: orange, some were slimy, size varies

Bruising: no color change

Location: NE Texas

Those look like Laccaria, perhaps Laccaria oblongospora, reported from sandy soil on the gulf coast under long leaf pine.

ya know they look like they are the same family as the cubes. I have a shitload of them growing behind me in the fields

In what way do they appear to be in the same family? And what do you mean by that? They look very different from cubes to me, and very different from the family Strophariaceae (although, many psilocybes do look different from this poorly specified family).

Yeah, most definitely not in the family Strophariaceae. You should do a spore print; I bet it comes out white.

I'd bet on that with you Dan. Usually when I find these kind of non-descript laccarias, the grown around them is powdered white. They seem to be pretty prolific spore producers. Here's one from last year:

Not as dramatic as if I had a top down shot, but the white on that leaf is all spores, it was a typically brown dead leaf.
