I was browsing Myspace looking for information on Ghost and other psychedelic music and i came across this site (www.myspace.com/paislyunderground) and It's got a couple compilations that are just plain amazing! the first one i got was named "Psychedelic Intrumentals" Which ranges from intrumental tracks from the first psychedlic Era to Acid Lead guitar tinged Jazz to japanese Acid Folk last it goes off into space. and the other is "Acid Shadows" like the name its obscure and little know tracks from the psychedelic years both albums are well put together and should be enjoyed so i copied the Links
Psychedelic Intrumentals http://rapidshare.com/files/18376770/Paisly_Undergrounds_s_Psychedelic_Intrumentals.rar
Acid Shadows http://rapidshare.com/files/16311985/Paisly_Underground_s_Acid_Shadows.rar

Music is psychedelic. I find the term "psychedelic music" to just be...redundant.

Get some turn tables, a drum machine, an old tube synth and good roland synth. Listening to other peopls music tripping is great....creating your own "psychedelic" music while tripping is undiscribeable. Maybe you dont need all the equipment I mentioned...hell even some pots and spoons can lead to good trippy music while on psychedelics.
Music in general is great though, but it sounds as if you are looking more for PsyTrance..?

I find a big difference listening to music produced with the intent to examine or reflect the psychedelic experience rather than music with that not in mind.

Oh yeah, throw on some Backstreet Boys next time you're tripping balls and see how that goes...
There is definitely a musical continuum from boring, uninspired shit to incredibly mindblowing and expansive solid gold.

Acid Mothers Temple, Clear Light, Cosmic Sounds, Curved Air, Exuma, Far East Family Band, Jade Warrior, Management, Nektar, Osibisa, Shpongle, Silver Apples..those are a bunch I remember listening too during a particular psychedelic music phase, I only listen to a couple of them still.
The psychedelic genre as I see it uses the term 'psychedelic' loosely, there's a lot of crossover between genres and what one person considers psych another may not.

I agree it's a genre that is hard to distinguish and vast in comparision with other genres but I do think that you can determine if the group or artist has psychedelia in mind but even then it's still arguable.

Backstreet Boys lack in the music field in general. A lot of people wouldn't consider them real musicians. They're more like commercialized puppets. Try out some classical music sometime or something like that. Anything creative in general is always great regardless of the style.
