Idea for Keepers Brew?

I just got done reading what ever I could within the last couple of hours, and I never really got a straight answer. Just got a used kit from a friend from a site, was wondering about the keepers brew powder... ran out and seen its $99.00 off the site, would potato dextrose agar powder or it mixed with malt extract to re-create the expensive powder?, any simple ideas?, I have a very good amount of agar...

what that appears to be...after some research, is a liquid inoculum
which is very popular these days, and theres plenty of information on it elsewhere

common substates in lieu of keepers brew is:
honey + water
karo light corn syrup + water
light dry malt + dextrose + water (which is what keepers brew looks closest to)

things of that nature...hope this helps point you in the right direction.

oh, and as a followup
all that agar you have can be used in petri dishes
common formulas for that are:

light dry malt + agar + yeast
boiled down potato broth + agar + yeast
and another 4-5 other recipes i cant think of off-hand
and if you lack petri dishes, you can always use small canning jars
the smaller and fatter the better

in any case, if you dont use the agar immediately, hold onto it, cause it'll come in handy someday.

you don't want to use agar for this purpose.



you want to make a liquid culture...an LC.

Keepers brew is probably...light dry malt & dextrose.



Save your agar...for working with petri dishes.
