Agrocybe pediades? Psilocybe coprophila?
    #6613276 - 02/26/07 04:27 PM (17 years, 1 month ago)

I'm very new at this, but my guess is either Agrocybe pediades or Psilocybe coprophila. Found after rain, on a hillside in cow dung.

I would say first type is Agrocybe pediades, second type looks like a panaeolus campanulatus or related species and then the last type is psilocybe coprophila.

Simple to distinguish Agrocybe and Psilocybe with a spore print. I would lean toward Strophariaceae family based upon appearance. Just from a cursory look at the thumbnails I kinda think you have Stropharia semiglobata.
You should check out the FAQs and submit the required information for Ids to clear up ambiguities.

Not Ps. coprophila, nor A. pediades, but good leads!
I agree with georgeM - it looks like S. semiglobata.

Second species is indeed a Panaeolus, perhaps Pan. papilionaceus(previously known as Pan. campanulatus), though it would be difficult to narrow it down to species.

Third one is too blurry to tell.

Both of these are from one of the first mushrooms:

Is it safe to conclude that S. semiglobata is completely inedible? I've done a few searches now and that seems to be the general consensus. Either way, I'm glad to have a positive ID on these mushrooms. Should help a lot in future hunts.

You could eat it, though I would not. I doubt they are very tastey, and although they may not kill you, they could likely give you a bad case of the runs.
