Which strain should I choose?

I was just wondering what the difference is between all of the different strains out there. Most of the sites I have been to just list the different strains that they sell. Are certain strains stronger or do they have different effects from others? Also, I have seen 'species specific' in several growing guides when referring to optimum temperature, humidity, etc. Is that even worth worrying about for a newbie grower or should I just use standard temps? If it is worth worrying about where could I find this information?

i would keep it simple your first time and worry about results(pick a basic reliable) different strains vary on yeild and potency and time/ease to cultivate just following the standard basic methods that have worked for others and doing it will answer most of your questions on most aspects then come back wit un answered ques. but if worried mainly about potency their are so many factors (like maturity of shroom) that i would not worry to much about strain, becuase most are pretty good, until you get into the more advanced cultivation i just started myself but no matter how much i read or new about shrooms i new nothing until i actually tried it so just go for it and then take what ever direction you want to modify and improve your results to your situation --good luck

as for what is the best strain, heh, i have no clue ive been trying to figure this out myself, hell i dont even know what strain it is im growing right now, i got mine from a friend at college and i dont know how to get ahold of him atm. Im going to have to post pics once they are more mature and try to get someone to ident. them for me. As for the temps, yeah i think if you setup some way of keeping them at the recomended temps and use a thermometer to keep track the process will go faster and you will have a bit of peace of mind knowing this. but you can always go my way, and just wing it, try to keep them around an exceptable temp, but then it has taken my first cake nearly 30 days to fully colonize.

Hey, there isn't a best strain. It is a matter of opinion. A cubensis is a cubensis no matter how you look at it. Try the Texan Strain. This is one of my personal favorites to cultivate. It has very agressive mycelium. And pins and fruits like crazy. It has also been very forgining in less than sterile conditions. Texan Mushrooms (mushroom-madness.com)
Or you can simply go with the B+ (sporeworks.com)

As a newbie, you shouldn't get so caught up in the specifics that you miss the big picture. Start with the PF tek and use an easy beginner strain. My dog's boyfriend's uncle's mailman who saw Ferris pass out at the 31 Flavors last night says that any of the Thai strains are good strains for a newbie.

Most popular strain for beginers seems to be the B+. Available through most vendors.
