Casing Substrate Depth
    #661729 - 06/04/02 02:34 AM (21 years, 9 months ago)

A FOAF just made some big 4 cake casings crumbled over damp verm in a pyrex regular size meatloaf dish and covered with 50/50. My question is would this thick substrate depth require a longer colonization time for the mycelium to poke through?

Thanks in advance.

Your casing layer should be a 1/4 of the size of your substrate level. So if your substrate level is lets say 2 inches thick..your casing layer would be a 1/2" thick. If this is right then you should do as normal. It might take a little longer but a lot of substrate usually colonizes quickly depends tho..you'll have some good flushes

Thank you very much for your reply. I saw some mycelium poking through the top casing layer today. Just four little spots of fuzz. I propmptly covered them with fresh material and put the foil back on and back in the dark at 85 degrees.

Thanks again!
