RebelSteve's Pot Tek Idea
    #661601 - 06/04/02 12:43 AM (16 years, 5 months ago)

Okay... Once again I can't sleep and I came up with this idea for a very long-lasting cultivation technique. Someone else has probably already posted with a very similar idea, but I am a newbie and haven't seen such a post since I've been here.

Anyway, here it is:
(Note: This is not a detailed step-by-step procedure, just a rough outline. Also, I have no clue if this would actually work; it's just a theoretical idea that I came up with)

Using the tek of your choice, do a casing at the bottom of a large pot (one that would be used for flowers or plants, not cooking).

Cover the top of the pot with syran wrap to maintain humidity.

Go through normal casing procedures, and when ready for fruiting, place the pot somewhere where light can reach all the way down to the casing layer.

After harvesting, simply cover with a new casing layer and go through the normal casing procedures again until it fruits once more.

Now, the thing about doing this in a pot is that you would be able to repeat the above step over and over until you finally reach the top of the pot. Thus, you have a long-lasting growing chamber that needs little work.

Sound like a good idea to you guys? I'm going to try it very soon... Please let me know if you experienced people see any problems with it or any ways to make it better. Thanks!

-RebelSteve

Not very, sorry.
The mushrooms thrieve on the substrate that is underneath the casng layer. So applying a casing layer over and over again won?t solve the problem that the substrate is being used up after only a couple of flushes.

Damn... way to rain on my parade Anno Just kidding.
I don't get it tho... I mean, if the mycellium is growing up through the casing layer, why would it not take any nutrition from it?

Becasue casing is supposed to be non nutritous.

Peat is non-nutritious?? I thought it was used b/c it did provide some nutrition...
Even if it isn't, what if instead of doing a traditional casing layer, one with something nutritional in it was used.
I guess in essence this would just be creating a large cake... But couldn't it work?
Sorry if I'm being annoying; I'm just throwin' out ideas here

Peat is non nutritous for P. cubensis.
Coco coir is slightly nutritous for P. cubensis.

You would get contamination faster than you could spell M - u - S - h - R - o - O - m.
