No one ever mentions Performance.
2001 is the only film I've ever managed to watch while tripping.
There's enough stuff going on around me to make switching on the TV a pointless exercise.
On the comedown a good Coens/Wes Anderson style comedy or stand-up comedy like Bill Hicks, Ross Nobel, Sarah Silverman work well though.

well you can't argue with that logic Labyrinth is a great movie!
Personally I think watching movies while tripping is a waste of trip. Psychedelics open up your spirit for exploration, while the TV is an entertainment & time-passing device. If you use that window of opportunity to watch the Ninja Turtles.. Hmm, it kinda reduces the psychedelic to an entertainment/time-passing device itself.
This is no psychedelic elitism: the most beautiful psychedelic effects are internal and occur when you are least distracted. A TV with a movie on is a distraction device, making little more come through than distortions of the senses. Instead of opening your inner eye you cling onto the TV set, trying to watch the movie.
If the TV has to be on, it is best set on either (silent) static or playing the movie Baraka, a movie without narrative, showing a bords eye view of our planet earth.

Brazil is fucking excellent. I haven't watched it tripping, but I'm sure it would be an experience to say the least. Here is a list of trippy movies, some have been mentioned: Videodrome, Brazil, Fantastic Planet, Return to Oz, True Stories, and Killer Nerd.

i recently watched the naked lunch for the first time...that movie was incredibly trippy. (i've heard the author of the book that the movie was based on was heavily dosed on lsd for the majority of the time while he was writing it)

Battle Royal. Japanese and subtitled. A group of highschool students is abducted and taken to an island where they are forced to fight to the death for survival in the jungle. Wicked film, and not at all mindless.
While I'm in the camp of not watching televisions\movies while tripping (though the atomic bomb test videos were good...), the thread merely requests trippy movies. Just a few that come to mind that I think are well enjoyed with cannabis that I dont think have been mentioned:
Amelie Akira Kurosawa's Dreams The Life Aquatic The Outlaw Josie Wales Breakfast at Tiffany's Interview with the Vampire Outside Out and I just watched momento and loved it. Which someone made fun of me for

Re: movies & tripping - I like watching a good, but weird movie that seques your come up nicely. Wallace and Gromit worked very well for that, (did that for my wife's first trip and she said it was a good choice).
re: violent movies & tripping - while tripping alone once I wound up watching parts of Saving Private Ryan (while also trying to play WoW) and that was really fucking weird. Not bad, it just made me feel like I was driving on one of those under-construction roads with an un-even surface, where your car is tilted at an angle. But in this case it was my brain.

When i trip i zone out of movies..
Good ones: The Wall?!? Mirrormask Pulse (live Pink Floyd) ..live music in general (if you're gonna watch a movie you might as well have some ear sex too) The Quatsi Trilogy... koyaaniquatsi, naquoquatsi (spelling?) -they're along the same lines as baraka Has anyone said Yellow Submarine Oh and Waking Life is pretty nifty too
Some other trippy movies: (not necessarily just for when tripping) ..in other words sci-fi-ish
The Returner Avalon (kinda like the matrix) Immortel Intacto

Lakposhtha hâm parvaz mikonand (Turtles Can Fly) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0424227/
This is one of the craziest movies I have ever watched. Its ending is just insane. I highly recommend it.

The first time I ever trip off some shroom, me and a buddy watched Creepshow. Man, it was fantatic esp. the one short story about the roaches. I started seeing roaches crawl out of the tube. Here are my favs: Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas The Big Lebowski The Wall O Brother, Where Art Thou Easy Rider I bet watching Critters would be...well a trip
