Re: Does this completely disprove an afterlife? [Re: Psilocybeingzz]

We certainly won't last forever as individuals, because our individuality itself is an illusion. I like the way Sinbad put it. You don't have to worry about becoming nothing when you die, because you already are nothing, and just don't realize it. Though I would say that rather than "nothingness," we come from undifferentiated consciousness, and to that we will return. That consciousness can take on new forms, which can be thought of as a form of reincarnation, though I'm not sure we experience it as such. We are not part of the universe. We ARE the universe, and the universe is us. We are all one.

We can say for certain, that there may be no after life. Can you say for sure that there is one?

We can say for certain there may be an afterlife?  That sounds a bit contradictory eh?  To answer your question, no I cannot say that there is an afterlife but I believe there is just like you believe there isn't.  As long as each individual is happy in their beliefs and there is no conclusive evidence as to why those beliefs are wrong or that those beliefs could damage that person, why change them?

That's true, Psilo. But i look at the history of mankind, and mysticism is one of the biggest patterns that transcends all cultures. From the greeks to egyptians to chinese to indians to tribesmen, etc.
Organized religion is pretty rediculous, but the 'feeling' of spirituality is all around.
Kinda hard to deny the experience of millions upon millions of people from modern times to ancient times just because you havent 'felt' it yourself.
Perhaps it's just chemical reactions in our brains. Perhaps there are alternate realities.

can you prove that you love someone? no

you don't have to be a Christian to see God, angels or heaven.

Your opinion is cool and its cool that you like it, but please accept the fact that it is not proof of anything. It is an opinion, just like everything else posted in this thread.

You haven't disproven anything - you had a thought. congrats.

To know the truth I don't worship a god. That doesn't stop me from believing in an afterlife though.

There is no self. We are all a convergence of forces manifesting temporarily in this moment. In other words, there is nothing continuous that makes us who we are.

if there is a god why would he give us so much fear and destruction, this world is going straight to the dumpster, and people try to reject it or go into denial.i dont believe their is an afterlife, i believe we just do, and live for the sake of being alive. i mean thinks of the trillions of trillions of planets out there that god(if their is one) has time to focus on. why would he want to judge us all, maybe its just a part of are brain called GUILTY CONSCIOUS, which all of us have and develops during puberty. sometimes i just think all this religion shit is in our heads

Look into the distinction between religion and true spirituality.

They are universes apart.

Religion is a man-made template on top of spirituality.

Religion is someone else's idea of how you should relate to yourself, your fellow man and the universe. Spirituality is your own unique approach to the same when you are in touch with your true self.

But that does not really "prove" the none-existence of an afterlife.

I personally don't care about an afterlife. I'm just so happy that I do actually exist, that much is for sure... If I die then fine, I go with the flow... I don't ever freak on trips cuz I'm perfectly content with existing...Maybe I will feel different when I grow older?

What trips me out sometimes is everyone on this earth, in 200 years will not be here, sometimes I drive and I look at everyone around me and go haha we're all dead in 200 years! LOL

Of course not. I didn't claim it did.

In order to "prove" the existence of the afterlife you would have to use either tools or standards developed in this world which are probably not relevant to the other world.

thats why i think that atheists who 'know' without a doubt are just as ignorant as evangelicals.

i understand. ive started reading The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins, and im also reading DMT: The Spirit Molecule. You cant just ignore all of the experience out there. It's a part of life that you can allow yourself or not. It's up to you to show yourself. No one's going to do it for you.

some people want it, some people dont. some people who do take meditation, drugs, or the 'religion' approach, etc. some people who dont just stay in the rat race without looking at the sky.
but i try to experience as much as i possibly can in this life, so im not going to close the door to the possibility of alternate existences...especially after my experience with psychadelic drugs. ya know? why close off? you dont gotta pray or donate to your local church's collection plate to feel a sense of connection with all things, but this seems to be the biggest reason why atheists bash religion and therefore ignore all spirituality.

i think that the human mind creates it's own reality and builds it's own ideal of what happens after death, and the magic of everything behind that keeps the 'energy' of that ideal living after we have died, so we creat our own afterlife kind of by believing it... and the unseen, unexplainable magic of the spirit world help us by pushing it into a reality

so youre saying that the afterlife exists, but it isnt a part of our current reality?

and by unexplainable magic of the spirit world i assume youre talking about ghosts, etc?
that's a whole nother can o worms

but i totally agree with you if what you mean is that there is an energy out there which connects all things. also, that our only way to attain an honest connection with this 'force' while in this physical realm is through extreme meditation, shamanistic archetypes, near-death experiences, or DMT.

In no way does the original post "completely disprove an afterlife."

There's just so much we don't understand, so many things we aren't aware of. "Do we even see the hundred-thousandth part of existence?"

I think that whatever you want to be true is true for you. It applies to every other aspect of life, so why not in death as well? In any case, as you're dying, your brain freaks for a while, and it will probably lead you to believe that what you already believe is the truth anyway, so...

death isn't the end of all existence, just the physical realm.
dying is the end of the beginning, then onto infinity
