Strings...
    #6606330 - 02/24/07 05:50 PM (16 years, 11 months ago)

I bought an acoustic guitar some point last year when I was hella baked, and its been sat in the corner gathering dust ever since (practically)..

I played it everyday when I first bought it, just playing around making sounds with it (I can't play the guitar, I was just copying tabs..) And then I broke the G string on it.

Since then its been sat in my corner gathering dust (its been there for like a year now)

Anyway, I need to buy some new strings for it, but I haven't a clue what to buy, so if someone can point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.

Also, whats the best way to learn to play.. I feel I need a creative outlet in my life (as all I do is math, science and computers)

Thanks

Get D'Addario Fretwankers. Best kind of string there is IMHO. Guage 12 should do an acoustic nicely.

Just walk into any music store, they'll have tons of acoustic guitar strings to choose from.  Strings are pretty comparable, it's not going to make or break your guitar, one brand over another.  Just go in and find one that looks good (or is on special) and string that bitch up.  An electric tuner won't hurt either (if you don't already have one).  Then as for the learnin', well mayhap I'm not one to talk but I've just been playin' alongside my favorite tunes for the last three years or there 'bouts and am having a fine time taggin' along to my favorites pretty good.  Heck I can even riff out a nifty chord progression off the cuff e'ry now and again.  Point is, if you want to play well, all you really need to do is play!  Familiarize yourself with the instrument and enjoy.  Afterall, if you aren't enjoying it, you may as well not even be doin' it!

PS.  I wish I would just buckle down and take some formal lessons.. but after 8 years of lessons on the piano growing up (against my will), I have been very reluctant to get goin' with a pro.  One of these days.. hopefully soon.  Might even check my local community college for music courses just to keep things fresh and ease my way into the whole structured learnin' process.

They make up for it by lasting twice as long as inferior strings.
