You should check out Hasil Atkins. He doesnt play steel guitar, but he is a one man band and is pretty damn funny.

He heard hank williams on the radio one time and thought he was playing all the instruments so thats what he learned to do. He started sing rock and roll the same time elvis did but he was also singing about chickens, decapitation, processed meat and some more chickens.

I wish there was more of him on p2p but its pretty hard to find.

Baby Gramps is incredible. The first time I saw him he was opening for The Melvins and Iwas sitting up in the balcony. From that distance, I figured he must be a young guy with an old man outfit on because his energy and stamina were so awesome I thought he couldn't actually be an old man. Then I saw him play at a bar and nearly shit when I realized how old he was, and because what he does is so amazing. He dropped his thumb pick and couldn't find but I saw where it laded and grabbed it and handed it to him and he said something like "Eyes like a hawk!", it was cool, I was glad I could help out The Gramps! His playing is amazing and so are his vocals. He kinda sounds like Popeye bit I love his bayou/Tuvian throat singer style.

Do you have the song, I think it's called Skillet o' Snakes you could upload?

elmanimal: I couldn't find Hasil Atkins on any of my regular p2p clients.. do you have an mp3 you could post?

Viveka: You saw Baby Gramps and the Melvins in the same show?? /dies. I honestly can't figure out how old the guy is, either. And I don't have that song, sorry. =[

And just for you, Cow, here's Gramps' version of Big Rock Candy Mountain.

I guess BG is getting a lot of exposure from that "Rogues Gallery" comp that came out as support for Pirates of the Caribbean. Cool with me, that was a great comp. =]

edit - I learned today that Gramps is from Seattle, and that I'll be able to see him downtown on a number of occasions next month! I'm freakin' stoked.

Yeah, he usually plays once a month at The Triple Door in the Musicquarium and it's free admission and you can sit like five feet from him if you want!

Yep, I was gonna go see him middle of March down at the Musicquarium.

He's also playing the Hale's Ale Brewery here in my neighborhood a few times pretty soon. That should be a great time.

If you're from Seattle, we oughta go to a Gramps show!

Yeah man, I'll most likely be going to the March show at the Musicquarium, or maybe one of those other shows. Is Hale's Ale Brewery a cool venue? We could show up a little early for greets and a drink or whatnot.

I don't know if it's cool really, I've never been there. It looks pretty nice. http://www.halesales.com/

PM me sometime soon and we can figure out what show we'll both be at. =]
