Snake Oysters
    #6582065 - 02/18/07 03:53 PM (17 years, 1 month ago)

I have managed to produce a new strain of oyster mushroom which I am calling the Snake Oyster

Would the white on the ends be spores starting to form?

Those would be Oyster's starving for oxygen.

Exactly. That's the classic shape they get when in high CO2 conditions. You'll need to drill a lot of holes in that tub to grow oysters. Drill holes in the sides, top and bottom. Give them lots of air and the next flush will have real caps. They also need much more light than cubes, but lack of light gives the 'coral' look, while long, fat stems and no caps indicates high CO2.

yep, we all got pics of failed oyester grows, spoiled by not being given enough fresh air exchange. try leaving the top of the tub off, and leaving the tub by an open window.

that said, nice snake oyster pix :crazy2: :dogapple:  :dogapple:

I harvested the snake oysters and opened a crack of about an inch with the lid on loosely (adjusted to maximum that would still keep relative humidity up to 85%). That was on Sunday. Already today I'm getting another flush that looks much better. Thanks everyone for the advice.

These are blue oysters by the way.

open it up more - there'll be plenty humidity from the wet perlite. just look at how they're already improving from the extra air to breathe. give them more of what they want
