Three favorite strains, and why?
    #6593412 - 02/21/07 11:24 AM (17 years, 1 month ago)

I was hoping some of the more experiences growers would share with me what some of their favorite strains are and why. Anyone?

the "more experienced growers" will tell you that any strain can produce a vast array of results, from poor to excellent

then they'll probably follow that up with a nod to the top of this forum, where you'll find "THE STRAIN THREAD"

This is very true:thumbup: But I still have my own personal favorites . No particular reasons , as stated all strains will pretty much do the same , but mine are SA(for size) , EQ(for yield) and PE , well , for obvious reasons;)

You got that right. Inoculating a substrate with a multi-spore solution is a crap shoot. The only true way to get consistent results is with an isolate.

Mushroom genetics are far different than plant genetics. With mj, one can plant seeds that will generally produce a crop similar to the parents. Such is not the case with mushrooms. Each mushroom produces millions, if not billions of spores. Each spore has a set of genetics unlike any other spore. 'Think fingerprints'. Now, another analogy. Humans breed fairly true because a male and female produce offspring, thus the child is a 50-50 cross. Following that analogy, understand that mushrooms can have 20,000 or more 'sexes' represented in those billion or so individually unique spores. Thus, the chances of a collection of mushroom spores breeding true to the parents is very low.

Oh yea...the STRAIN THREAD is stickied at the top of the page.
